Nice place to stop before Stykkisholmur. Dont forget to put some money in the collection box. You stop car and walk to the grave of Guðrún. From there you walk to the top. You have to have good thoughts in your mind . On the top walk to pile of stones, look east and make your three wishes. The view... More

An fairly easy 5-10 minute walk sees you at the top of Helgafell which on a clear day has stunning views for miles. Steeped in history it's worth reading up about before you go. If you're heading to Stykkishólmur it's worth the detour.

Beautiful location, but our group was hiking it in the wind and rain. I turned around and went back down. That wind will take your confidence away! Loved the location however, and got some great photos.

Quick little hike with great scenery and views. Worth a 30 min stop. Fairly easy hike for families or individuals

A short hike up the mountain. Follow the ruins up the mountain and you will reach the top in a short while. However, be careful during wet weather as the ground could be soft and slippery. The area is scenic with the church. There is a WC on site too. Do read up on the "to-do" and make your wishes... More

Try to stop here on your way to Stykkisholmur. It's a quick and relatively easy hike for anyone in decent shape. The views are the best you'll get, especially on a nice day

Since I was there maybe two years ago, they seem to have blocked off the official route up the hill, which should, according to the myth, start at the grave of Guðrún Ósvífursdóttir beside the church. They were probably getting too many tourists prancing through the front of their home but I guess that's the way it is! Nevertheless, this... More

Its a fairly historical mountain (really just a large hill) with an easy hike to the top for great views of the surrounding valley and mountains. Really good way to spend an hour. Highly recommend.

Right off the road into or out of Stykkisholmur, this mountain offers a great explanation of its place in Icelandic history. Has restrooms on site, and the location was not very crowded. Definitely worth the stop.

Enjoyed my visit to this church. The folks that live there also sell handmade wool items on the honour system. The caretaker says he speaks no English but it might also be so he isn't totally held up all day by inquisitive visitors! :)
