Visited with our family of 4 (2 young children). They loved the folklore of the area, and we climbed the mountain following the rules (don't look back, and don't talk)! A short 10 minutes to reach the top. Very windy on top, but beautiful views....More

Stopped for coffee in the picturesque little town and we spotted a whale. There are car park spaces overlooking the sea so a good spot to just stop and take in the sights.

$4 a person to walk up a small hill. Maybe if the weather was nice it would be a nice view but the day we went was drizzly and overcast.

If you believe in Icelandic sagas, and you'd like to have 3 wishes fulfilled, climb up Mount Helgafell... 1. Start climbing, without looking back or talking 2. Find the ruins which supposedly belonged to an Augustine Monastery 3. Face east and whisper your wishes into...More

There is some local lore surrounding Helgafell which certainly makes this place more than just an interesting piece of nature. The "mountain" sits off the road and appears to be on private land. A donation of a few Kronas is expected and the hike up...More

We had read about Helgafell and its spiritual importance during the Settlement Era, as well as to the Sagas. Also, the folklore that visitors who begin at Gudrin's grave, climb up and don't look back can have three wishes granted. We were driving the Snaefellsness...More

Probably the best view for the least climbing work or any hill you might climb. Path to the top of the 250 hill is broken rock and has been improved but is rough walking on the stones. Not recommended without sturdy shoes or hiking boots....More

This hill is very important in Icelandic folklore, but for a visitor with not much knowledge, it is just a pretty hill climb.

It might irk some to pay to climb a hill but Helgafell has a fantastic view for very little effort. Quaint church nearby and lovely genuine souvenirs in the farm shop manned by the family who own it.

It's a very small mountain, and the car park is right at the base. 10 minutes up, 10 minutes at the top to look at the view, 10 minutes down!
