The basalt columns are pretty amazing along with other interesting rock formations. The beach is quite long, but has a warning sign for "sneaker waves" which catch people ignoring the surf to take photos of the rock formations and occasionally result in tourist deaths. If...More

Lots of tourists close to the car park. It gets quieter if you walk a bit further. Impressive rocks. Impressive ocean. Worth the visit.

A short trip off the highway. We enjoyed the black pebble beach and further down, the black sand beach, the basalt columns and caves, the huge rocks and the roaring sea. We visited very early in the morning (on our way to the glacier Lagoon)...More

Unfortunately you don't get any taste of being in this beautiful spot. I went there during sunset and it was full of people screaming and photographing. They should just stop every single bus from entering there and charge entrance then beautiful beach will reappear

This place is pretty mind blowing. The Raw Power of the Ocean here is crazy! Stay away from the water as many tourists are lost here every year. Walk left down the beach to the end to see the crazy waves crash into the rocks....More

My wife and I took some from the beach. I saw no signs restricting us from doing so. We put them in our carry on and security didn't say a word when going through the x-ray.

I'm not sure it really will be a problem if you don't go too far near the water (and really there is much more to see directly at the cliffs.) After a quick google search I found a forecast (just google 'tide times vík', I... More
