Husband enjoyed a hike to the place - we were booked on a tour and the guides provided us with the necessary safety equipment (crampons, harness, pickaxe) and taught us how to use it. It is important to have proper hiking shoes to attach your crampons onto - if you don't own a pair, see if you can rent one... More

We stumbled across this on our way back to Keflavik. SO glad we did. Its a tiny bit of hike to get here - although we are told you can see it very well on a clear day without hiking. We were there on a very cloudy day. It was well worth the 20 min hike. It takes your breath... More

A glacier you can drive right up to and take pictures. We loved the opportunity to just experience this on our own. You can book guided hikes and walks.

I googled visit a glacier by car and found this! The website was a little old as due to melting of the glacier it is now a 20minute walk away but oh so worth it. Beautiful doesn't really do it justice. It's possible to get on top with a guide but just getting close enough to touch the glacier was... More

About a 30 minute walk from the parking lot. You can get right up to this glacier and the small lagoon had some interesting little icebergs. However, if you are tight for time, skip this one and travel another 45 minutes East on 1 where you will see a much larger lagoon with BIG icebergs that flow out to the... More

My boyfriend and I originally had a guided walk on the glacier booked but missed out due to awful traffic. We did however just show up and decide to take a look for ourselves. We walked right up to where the glacier is and sat next to the water for some time. It was so impressive to see and something... More

Absolutely beautiful. Iceland is one of the most spectacular countries from Glaciers to black sand beaches.

We have never experienced anything like this: do go and see this glacier. It's a reasonably easy walk from a car or coach (about 20 minutes) and the scenery is stunning.

We stopped off on this point since there was a sign and it was a good stop to walk around and explore the glacier surround. We didn't go on top of the glacier to do a hike, but enjoyed walking around the base. Be mindful where you are stepping.
