Beautiful architecture

Although this is a fully "working " church, we took the time to walk around and look at the building itself. Stunning architecture and suited in a beautiful neighborhood.

I was a bit surprised to see that the Roman Catholic Cathedral was about as sparse as the Lutheran one was... I think this must be Icelandic simplicity and restraint in design at work. A simple space but peaceful and very quiet, contemplative. Some lovely old sculptures, including a very old carved wooden Madonna at the back of the nave.... More

This is a beautiful Nordic looking church with graceful interior and welcoming atmosphere. We attended a mass here. It was in English, Polish, Tagalog and Icelandic and it was fantastic. Great singing too. On another occasion we visited the church just for a few moments of reflection using this opportunity to explore the adjacent grounds as well.

While walking we encountered the Landakotskirkja. Once inside we discovered this was a Catholic church. There were about three people inside, admiring the architecture. It was quite bright inside, probably thanks to the white walls and ceilings. The outside remembers me of a church in London, I don't remember its name, but this one was Anglican. However, this is a... More

By far for me the most beautiful church in Iceland. The gothic feel makes it unique and worth seeing. Inside there are beautiful wooden carved altars and unique statues. The stained glass is plain yet beautifully geometric. If you're a church viewer like me put this one on your list.

Nice church. The architecture is pleasing and the interior is quite luminous, which might surprise when looking from the outside. The church is quite simple in the interior decoration, which is a plus.

The only bad thing to say about these absolutely gorgeous churches is that the downside of not having an entrance fee is that the maintenance of paintings etc is not so good. Great space, beautiful light and so calming atmosphere.

This church is a short walk up the hill from the Settlement Museum. It was quite simple but striking architecture on the outside and looks strong, imposing and resilient. The inside is very bright and has some interesting things to look at. Beware: the door opens outwards. At first we thought it was closed and were puzzled because it was... More

Beautiful Catholic church with nice external architecture and bright interior. The internal decor is simple and pleasant. Worth a quick visit when in Reykyavik. Allow about 15 minutes for the visit.
