The IMAGINE PEACE TOWER is a work of art conceived by the legendary artist and peace advocate Yoko Ono as a beacon to world peace. It is dedicated to the memory of John Lennon. The IMAGINE PEACE TOWER is located on Viðey Island in Kollafjörður and it's light is well visible from Reykjavík city and the capital area. Every year the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER emerges an hour after sunset between 9 October (Lennon's day of birth) and 8 December (Lennon's demise). In addition the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER emerges for one week on winter solstice, on New Year's Eve, for one week during spring equinox and few other selected dates. The ever changing weather conditions play an interesting part to the strength, intensity and brilliance of the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER’S light. During it's lighting time guided tours are avaiable called the Imagine Peace Tour. The tour is dedicated to the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER and Lennon’s and Ono’s continuing campaign for world peace. It is run by Elding with departures from Reykjavík's Old harbour. The tour unites history, art and nature is an interesting way.

This is a very interesting art installation. Yoko Ono's Imagine Peace Tower is a very moving piece. The rays of light shoot straight up into the Reykjavik night sky. You can see it from the harbor in Reykjavik. We were there in January and it...More

I have never been here, but I am very concerned about it. It is a disgrace to Iceland. It is nothing more than a blatant desecration of the night sky. People would want to visit Iceland to observe the Aurora Borealis. They would not want...More

For a brief time each year, from the date of John Lennon's birth to the date of his death, this tower of light shines in Reykjavik. It is visible from the shore or from boat.

On a lovely star lit night with a full moon this was very moving and atmospheric. We said a wee prayer for our nearest and dearest. Found it easy to spot from the path along the bay and quite something up close when we visited...More

Saw the light beaming skywards while we were on a Northern Lights boat tour in the harbor. Very inspiring to know what it is and why it's there.

This came as quite a surprise and apparently we had just missed Yoko Ono when she came to light the Peace Light. It shines over the city all night and gives a sense of reflection. Very pretty! Very moving!
