Listasafn Reykjavíkur Reykjavik Art Museum is the leading art museum in Iceland and has three locations in Reykjavik: Hafnarhus, Kjarvalsstadir and Asmundarsafn. Asmundarsafn is the former home and workshop of the sculptor Asmundur Sveinsson, who designed and mostly constructed this building himself in Laugardalur. The museum served to preserve his work and life, and displays the largest collection of his sculptures both inside and outside the building. Asmundur's art greatly reflects his lifelong interest in the Icelandic sagas, folk tales and classical mythology.

We walked over to this museum from the Hilton and were very pleasantly surprised. It was free for seniors which delighted us and it is very interesting seeing all the sculptures inside and as you walk around the walkway outside. It is worth a stop.

The building itself is worth seeing and the sculptures are an added bonus. I highly recommend going to this museum. The surrounding area is very peaceful and scenic.

Museum closed, when we called, but still things to look at outside. Some sculptures very good, some bit perplexing, good place to call for half an hour.

Very talented individual in his life time! It represents him well. We enjoyed as much walking outside and consulting the sculptures on the grounds than inside where the sketches are. There's free coffee with a little nook to sit to let the tranquility of the...More
