Our trip to Iceland was in late October, nonetheless we decided to make the trek over to Latrabjarg cliffs. Basing ourselves in Isafjördur, the journey took an entire day there and back. The driving conditions are unfavourable for the most part, with long winding roads filled with gargantuan pot holes. Still, the scenery on route is spectacular as ever. The... More

It's a nice place to visit during the summers when puffins are still calling the cliff their home. By September middle it is cold and super windy. The drive to the cliffs is painful since the roads are not paved. It's a nice place to hike.

We came quite a distance specifically to see nesting puffins, but by August 20th they had already gone. Definitely come here if you are into birdwatching, but try to come between May-July for best puffin viewing. And stay away from the edge of the cliffs. It's pretty much of a straight drop. And it smells like a lot of seagull... More

We visited the Latrabjarg Cliffs during our drive around Iceland's Ring Road and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our entire trip. This location has magnificent cliffs dropping directly into the sea with lots of wave action added as a bonus. The birds that nest and/or rest on the cliff faces create a cacophony of calls... More

The Latrabjarg Cliffs are beautiful to visit (a real must see!) but only with good weather. When it's raining it's nothing and I think it's even dangerous. The bird life is beautiful and very well approachable. Use the right photo equipment for great photos. A 300 mm tele is a must. Be extremely careful with (small) children. There is no... More

The drive there was a thrill, maybe a bit more than that in some parts of the road (road #62). We arrived at the Latrabjarg cliff late evening and the number of birds at that time was extremely high. The views are great and there is lots of place to take a hike. The place is very windy, so if... More

We arrived at the camping site that's just a few minutes from the cliffs on a beautiful evening. Since our day had already been very long and filled with activities, we decided to stay there, go to bed early and be ready to see the cliffs and puffins first thing in the morning. When we woke up, we were surrounded... More

The cliffs of all cliffs, Látrabjarg, are home to birds in unfathomable numbers. This westernmost point of Iceland (and Europe if Greenland and the Azores are not counted) is really a line of several cliffs, 14 kilometres long and up to 441 m high. And it's as steep as it gets, dizzyingly so. Safe from foxes, the birds are fearless,... More

Unfortunately we went in october and all that drive out there with our rental car was a bit in vain as there were no puffins there at this time. Saw the abandoned nests and some feathers. Fantastic view though and even though we went to see the birds it wasn't all bad. To stand on a 44 meter high cliff... More

It took us about 70 minutes from the Fosshotel in West Fiords to the cliffs. We had a small 4-wheel drive SUV which made the trip more comfortable, though we did see a couple of compact cars that made it out there. Unfortunately, no puffins to be seen, though the lady at the hotel said other guests had seen them.... More
