Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If one wants to get to know Vasa and its surroundings, this is the place to go. The landrising in the area is a world Record which affects the nature in an obvious way. In this Museum one can learn all about it. If one doesn’t have a car to go and explore by oneself, this is a good option. Be sure to visit the part called Terra Nova.

Terranova is situated in the same building with "Pohjanmaan Museo - Osterbottens Museo" (read separate Tripadvisor reviews) and you may visit both of them with the same ticket.
Terranova is a very good biological museum. You could call it a natural science exhibition, too. It specializes in local nature, especially the Kvarken archipelago (Merenkurkun saaristo), which is Finland's first natural heritage site on the list of UNESCO. It was a good idea to get to know this exhibition first and then visit Saltkaret (an observation tower, read separate Tripadvisor reviews) in Mustasaari to see these same things in real nature.
Terranova is a modern and well-kept museum. I really recommend it. Besides, it is easy to visit there, because it is situated almost in the city center.

If you have time only for one museum, this is it.
Terranova presents the Kvarken archipelago, which was chosen in 2006 to become Finland's first natural heritage site on UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites.
It shows the development of the Earth and the land uplift phenomenon which has formed the natural environment in the Kvarken region. It presents all the animals living here.
In the same building are also other exhibitions belonging to the Ostrobothnian Museum: the history of Vaasa, art and antique exhibitions.
So it is easy to spend many hours here. And everything with the same entrance fee.

This museum has several separate exhibits under one roof. For example, there is a natural history section, a games section and a media section. There ia a great section on the history of Vaasa. But, overall, each section is relatively small so we had been through the entire museum in a couple of hours.

Lot of things to explore.
Even active boys 6 and 8 years did not run around but studied coins, animals, boats, bats...
If there happen to be rainy day, this is the place to go.

It is part of a larger museum about the cultural & art history of Vassa. Terranova is the third part of the museum, & it is very informative. There were 2 short film clips in English which explained about the ice age, the formation of glaciers and their impact on the earths surface. Then the consequent uplift which is currently occurring as a result of the melting of the glaciers, and the removal of the weight of the glaciers from the earth surface. We found the displays really interesting. There was a large collection of local bird, & animal spice, ens as well.
We were able to recognise the birds we saw around the area after having seen them in the museum.
Well worth the entrance fee. We spent about 3 hours there.
We could have bought a full day ticket which included 2 other museums, but they turned out to be the art gallery at the city hall & a contemporary art gallery. As we are not fans of art galleries, we opted to pay for just the museum.

The information about the ice ages is very interesting, perhaps more interesting than the items in the section. One can learn very interesting facts there, don't miss it. You have access to the other parts of the museum, and can see clothes, tools and many other things related to old Vaasa. Info in English is somewhat limited in the sections except Terranova but this is not that vital. Museum shop is rich. If you like visiting museums, do not wait for a rainy day.

You can get a lot of information about the nature and animals from the Gulf of Bothnia and the Quark area. An interesting tour. There were a lot of families with children. And with the same fee you will get into the history museum (Pohjanmaan museo) as well.

Had really been looking forward to visiting this museum to learn more about the natural forces at work in the region. Sadly there was a problem with the electricity and the museum was closed for at least 2 days. The very helpful visitor centre should have been advised so as not to send tourists there.
