Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I liked this museum. It tells about the history of Vasa and Osterbotten and they have also many important paintings from the golden age of Finnish painting in the Hedmans collection. Well worth visiting.

A museum with two sides to it. First, an art museum, with several excellent pieces of Finnish art from the "golden era" -- many of which are well-known to Finns. These were acquired from a private collection. And second, a journey through the years; about a dozen stands ("rooms") exhibiting how (wealthy) people lived in Vaasa 100+ years ago.

Surprisingly good.

The museum houses Vasa history, paintings and furniture and natural history. The history part had a story of Vasa seen through years and in the view of different kind of people. The paintings had the most premier painters from the golden age of Finnish art. A surprisingly good collection of art.

Interested in what the life used to be in Finland during the past centuries? What about the Ice Age? Is the ground still rising? This and many more questions get the answers if you dare to visit Pohjanmaan museo in Vaasa. The museum is just a few blocks from the market place and because it is quite small you don´t need to reserve a whole day for your visit. Nice souvenirs and an opportunity to have some coffee!

This excellent museum includes both modern and old exhibits. The wildlife and geology sections are particularly interesting. Friendly staff. Our guide (Lonely Planet) says it opens at 12 but actually opens at the more useful 10.

Good shop with some interesting, unusual items. Small cafe area with good coffee (from a machine)

This Ostrobothnian museum (also known as Pohjanmaan museo and Österbottens museum) is situated in the same building with the natural science exhibition named Terranova (read separate Tripadvisor reviews). You can visit both museums with the same ticket.

The museum is an excellent place to get to know the city of Vaasa, which was founded in 1606. The museum tells about the history of the city. My teenage son spent very much time watching and reading all interesting facts. Especially reconstructed interiors of old homes are very fascinating. You find a porcelain room, a silver room and a coin cabinet in the museum, too. They also have temporal exhibitions.

Under the same roof are many different exhibitions and also the Terranova Museum which presents the nature of Kvarken Archipelago.

The Vaasa 400 Exhibition takes visitors on an interesting journey through the city’s 400-year long history.

The Hedman floor presents the art collections of the Hedman family. There are paintings by many famous Finnish artists such as Albert Edelfelt, Helene Schjerfbeck and Hugo Simberg. Also, the floor is full of antique furniture and other objects.

This museum has a geographical overview of the history of the characteristic features of the area, if that is in your interest this is worth a visit. Also cool coin collection, and a display of the controversial "wolf cave" site as well.

We thought it was worth the fee of 7 euro per adult. The basement is like a natural sciences museum, great for kids. The ground floor is filled with historic items and focuses on the history of Vaasa. Plenty to see on those two floors and they made an effort to provide information in English. There is also a small cafe with limited refreshments and a smaller upper floor with exhibitions.
