We visited this cathedral, whilst visiting the city on a cruise. It is a large relatively plain but impressive building, having a commanding position in the centre of the city. The inside is quite striking, particularly in size, when looking down the nave from either end - the altar at one end and a very large high level organ at the other. Definitely worth visiting if in the city

Impressive ancient well preserved huge cathedral, where you can see a lot and feel a lot about the religion and centuries past. Located well in middle of the city. Looks gorgeous. I wonder in a summer time even better. Recommended!

We arrived in Turku very early after an overnight ferry, before most things had opened, so we decided to walk around the town a bit. Fortunately the weather was beautiful and it is a very attractive, walkable city. We loved it. Walking from the market square along the river to the cathedral is easy and filled with interesting buildings. The cathedral was not yet open when we visited so we only explored the outside, but it’s very photogenic and has a lovely tree-filled park. Actually we got talking to a Greenpeace charity collector while we were outside and they told us about plans to protect the park, which is great. As we walked around we watched fieldfares (birds) amongst others. It’s a lovely space to chill out in the city and also features some restaurant and bar tables nearby.

Finland’s only medieval cathedral beautifully situated on the banks of the Aura River. It is an austere church without much decoration. Here lies Queen Karin Månsdotter buried, alongside Kristina the only one outside Sweden. There is also a small museum that costs 2 euros and it was nice to see medieval art and art from later centuries.
