During the covid-19 there were not much choices to visit museums. While visiting Turku we bought tickets to Wäinö Aaltonen Museum.... bad decision. I know that there changing exhibitions, but this one was a low point. One room with one video installation. Horrible.

The Wäinö Aaltonen Museum (WAM) by the Aura River is the signature museum of the famous Turku-based sculptor.
On our latest visit, there was an exhibition Touched by the Same Breath of Air. It consisted of Rosa Barba’s film and video installations.
The central piece of the exhibition was an expansive steel construction filling the entire WAM sculpture hall.
It was a very strange exhibition. There was much more to see in the entry hall.

This small museum is absolutely wort a visit. The museum building itself is lovely: clean, airy modern architecture - and they have often very good, small and compact exhibitions.
The museum's cafe is wonderfully retro, looks and feels just as it did when the museum first opened. Friendly service and tasty cinnamon buns and others treats.
I recommend you schedule ca. 1 hour for the exhibitions and enjoying the museum's atmosphere over a cup of coffee in their lovely cafe.

I often visit the museum, sometimes only for a cup of coffee or lunch as I love the retro style cafe. It fits the arhcitectural style of the building and is reasonably priced as has newspapers to read.

Museums with changing exhibitions are quite difficult to review if you are not a constant visitor.
I visited the HC Berg exhibition. And I am happy that I did. It was excellent.
The space in this museum is limited so there cannot be very much to see simultaneously. But you get a very adequate dose of art on one visit.
I was told by an ex Turku habitant that WAM has the best buns on earth. That to me is way overrated. They are not best on any scale to me.

I have been here a couple of times. The exhibitions are usually good and interesting. Last time I visited the Civil War exhibition, which lacked something. It felt incomplete and confusing, and I did not feel like I had learned something there.
The museum itself is grand and has alot to offer.

This is a quite small art museum where the exhibitions are changing.
This time there was an exhibition called 'Civil War'. Already on the street in front of the entrance was one artwork, a semitrailer with building waste from Syria. Not even inside, the exhibition was more understandable.
The building itself with sculptures by Wäinö Aaltonen was more interesting. The entrance hall was strikingly beautiful.
Upstairs is the Photographic Centre Peri with a free entrance.

Honestly, this museum had some great pieces up but I found it all too small and it was a very short visit in my opinion. I went on Turku day and so I did not have to pay but I think I would have been a bit disappointed if I did, seeing how things in Finland seem to be so expensive. But again, if you don't mind the price, it really has some nice pieces.
