Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Forum Marinum has grown and improved vastly. It is a VERY enjoyable museum. The site and the exhibits are unique, and more and more attractive. They now also house motor torpedo boats and the like under a roof.

A lot of things to see here, two old sailing ships, Sigyn and Suomen Joutsen, an old passenger ferry as well as some old military vessels. On top of that there's also an interesting museum. Well worth a visit.

Good review of marine history with its different actors and operators. There were also two old war vessels open for visitors.

We were a bit on a rush on that day so didn't manage to check out all the boats and the inside museum.

Easily reachable by bus or the city bike. It is a bit far to walk from the city center.

They have a nice selection boats/ships here. Very nice to visit on a sunny summer day and have some ice-cream afterwards by the river.

Located about 10 minutes from cruise ship terminals by Aura river. Good selection of old tools, shipyard photoes, scaled models, motors and mainly small historical boats. Has good naval and maritime rescue history areas. Popular lunch restaurant and cafe next to main entrance. Suitable for children also. One of main museums in Turku region and city.

The museum was boring for us who are not interested in maritime matters, mostly just pictures, some ships and engines etc., we went through within 10-15 minutes... The ship MS Bore outside on the river was also not interesting, not much to see either. Visiting the ship Suomen Joutsen was cool as well as the gunboat + minelayer so if you are not a maritime fan I suggest to get a ticket only for these (6+6 Euros) and enjoy. The atmosphere at the riverbank with the ships and a big marguerite sculpture was great, if you do not have time or money to visit any part of the museum just go to this area (it is free) and take some pictures. Parking is free there for a couple of hours.

Couples
Here you can walk for a couple of miles to feel the maritime history and atmosphere of Turku. While walking we learned about the old lighting wooden beacons in use since the 1220s! And of course we took photos with the monumental sculptures such as the giant chamomile flower. What we absolutely loved were these tiny bronze sculptures almost camouflaged and blended in with the nature and granite seating area of the port. We wish we knew the name of the artist!

Even if maritime history isn't your top area of interest, Forum Marinum has so much about history of Finland, the Baltic sea, seafaring, ships and vessels, that you will surely find something interesting. There are also hands on activities for kids.

The museum is in two separate buildings, and there are both permanent and changing exhibitions. In the summer months you can also visit the museum ships, which are really fascinating, especially the famous Suomen joutsen (Swan of Finland).

The museum has a nice shop and there is a very good restaurant at the museum - and a cafe at the museum ship Bore.

PRO TIP
If you don't have that much time, you can buy a separate entrance to the museum ships, only.
On the other hand, you can also get a wrist band valid for two days, and visit other places in between. The museum is right where there are plenty of other activities, too.

PRO TIP 2
You can also experience a lot just by visiting the restaurant Göran at the museum, or even better, the cafe on Bore (both free access), and walking the riverside by the museum.

This is a must place to visit when in Turku. Located on the banks of the Aura river, this museum gives you a perfect overview of the development of the Finnish marine life. Excellent descriptions of each display and era give you more "meat on the bones" with some sound effects! Naturally the crown on the top is the sailing ship "Swan of Finland", which sits in the water in front of the museum! After your visit to all exhibitions you can stop at their restaurant and eat a good lunch - this is an extra plus for this place.
