About
Experience both Finnish nature and the tropical rainforest throughout the year! The collection of over 5,000 plant species is a living display of the diversity of the plant kingdom. In the 6 greenhouses, you will experience the heat and scents of the tropics and see species ranging from tiny groundcover plants to the highest trees of the rainforest. Ornamental subtropical plants bring a breath of Mediterranean air, living fossils take you to the past, and the drought-resistant succulents surprise with their ability to adapt. In the outdoor gardens (23 hectares), the landscape changes with the four seasons. There are flowering plants from April to November but, in the autumn, leaves change color and winters are amazing, too. Free entrance to the outdoor gardens!

The gardens are free to visit and wander around although there is a 9 euro per person entry fee to go inside the glass houses. We went for the free option and just visited the gardens and cafe.

The gardens are nice enough but not that spectacular, my favourite bit being the rock garden near the entrance and the ponds. The cafe does food and drinks.

The botanical garden is suited for learning, but also just for relaxing and enjoying the atmosphere and plants. The greenhouse was like a paradise, the birds and fish living there added to the experience. As my visit was on the early spring, outside gardens were still quite blank. Beautiful springflowers everywhere, some old trees. it was easy to imagine how the place will look in the summertime.

Entrance to the garden is free, but there is 9 euro fee for visiting the greenhouse. Greenhouses showcase tropical and subtropical plants, a pond with carps and a good selection of orchideas.

There is plenty to look all year round. Gardens outside are free of charge. There is also a cafe and of course the greenhouses.

If you find yourself in Ruissalo, visit here! Inside the greenhouse there are a small exhibition about plants. They have some birds there flying around as well. There was a frog exhibition as well but not sure if it is finished already.

My score of 4 reflects our overall visit to the island of Ruissalo, not just the Botanical Garden. Our visit to Turku coincided with the last weekend of operation of the ‘vesibussi’ waterbus before the winter. We used the water bus to reach the island so we could view the harbour on the way.
Many of the tourist operations on Ruissalo and the other islands are closing for winter now but we enjoyed a walk on the island, including around the Botanical Garden. It is a small area but there is a lot packed into it and there was plenty of autumn colour during our visit. We also saw some bird life (hundreds of geese on the shore) and a red squirrel during our visit. I’d recommend the trip when the waterbus starts running again next summer. In winter you can still visit by car or bus- but the island may be pretty bleak at this time of year I imagine!

The place is nice, and you can have a nice walk outside if the weather allows. Many flowers and plants which I suppose will be more beautiful in July...it was a bit bare in June 9.
It is a good idea to have some snacks and drinks with you to sit down and relax in the nature. There is also a cafe you can eat indoors.

This place is not very big but they have managed to built there a huge variety of different habitats and plants.
When Finnish winter is at its worse in January we take a family trip there, it´s a refreshing experience.

Nice place to visit when the day is sunny. It is close enough to visit even by cycling from the centrum. Nice walks and you see the usual stuff you'd expect: flowers

Outside the Botanical Garden Building is big and beautiful, from early spring until late Autumn. Inside the house there is a big and interesting greenhouse with a great variety of plants. In the house there also is a café with offers lunch, too. The whole isle of Ruissalo, however, is very beautiful, with great nature and long foothpaths, and therefore it is nice to combine a wandering in the surroundings with a visit to the garden - perhaps for a picnic in the garden, too, or a cup of coffee in the café.
