The Turku Philharmonic Orchestra is the oldest orchestra in Finland and one of the oldest in the world: its origins are in the famous Musical Society of Turku that was founded in 1790. The orchestra was brought under municipal ownership in 1927. Today, the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra with its 74 musicians is the fourth biggest orchestra in Finland.

Turku Philharmonic Orchestra played Wagner's Parsifal (concertante version) in the Turku Concert Hall, among the singers were Karita Mattila and Matti Salminen (both have also lived in Turku). One of the ways to spend a pleasant evening in Turku. If you like classical music, of course. :) We went to the concert in the City Hall. It's conveniently located.

Now we have Leif Segerstam as conductor! Turku Philharmonic Orchestra has had many great conductors before, but I think that Segerstam is best since hungarian Tibor Boganýi.
