Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I expected an old market but it’s more of a restaurant court. I did not feel that I was in Finland at all, the smells of mixed country kitchens, many different Asian, Italian and other restaurants have filled the tight old building with disturbing smells.

I have been to many old market halls, used to have a part smelling with fresh meats, a part smelling of fresh fish, a part smelling with fresh baked breads, cheese and cold cuts. And this hall was NOTHING like that.

It is an old beautiful building, I did enjoy architecture but other than that it was a huge disappointment.

Unfortunately, I discovered that many of the areas were obviously no longer in use. The open ones were very interesting but also rather expensive. The quality of the products on offer was good. The architecture was very interesting. But unlike other market halls, I wouldn't visit them again.

Gorgeous market hall with a good atmosphere. Different options for eating with lots of choice.
Food stalls with products not found in an ordinary supermarket. Fresh fish, meats, bread, cakes etc.
Good service with mostly very knowledgeable staff.
And right in the heart of town.

We were looking for some traditional Finnish dishes and struggled to find them. Luckily we found some of them here, especially 2 fish stores stood out to us. Staff was very friendly explaining us what was what, prices were okay.
Additionally you find a lot of international food booths there as well which as a tourist I found a bit less interesting.
All in all, one of the better places to eat in Turku.

If you are in a bit hurry or don't really know what you would like to eat, then Kauppahalli is your place. You can find almost anything there from sushi to "homemade" meals.

It's a beautiful market hall with a wonderful interior of wooden market stalls. The stalls selling meat, fish, poultry etc. are interspersed with cafe's serving cooked food, coffees, pastries etc. One is done out as an old railway carriage. But you don't have to be needing to buy fresh food, breakfast or lunch to make a visit here worthwhile. Just go to admire its amazing interior.

Many lunch alternatives ranging from sushi to vegan to tacos. Good place to shop for meats, fish, poultry and specialties. All food services are conveniently located inside the market hall which makes it great for rainy days. The best food shop is probably butcher Reino Jokinen where you can find all sorts of meat and charcuterie.

This is a great place to eat when your party does not necessarily want to eat the same food or if you want to try courses from different food stalls. For starters, we took Summer rolls from an Asian vendor; for the main, noodle soup from one place and spaghetti from another and for dessert, ice cream from yet another place. The toilets are clean and close by for washing hands. Everything tasted good and the atmosphere was great.

The Kauppahalli in Turku is definitely architecture porn, both inside and out. Similar to the hall in Helsinki, many of the food stalls are now eateries rather than produce stalls. We had a delicious bowl of fish soup and purchased some equally delicious fresh bread, but for fruit and vegetables one needs to go to the Kauppatori- where a few stalls are still operational despite the major renovation/construction work being undertaken in the square.

Great place to see what the locals like to eat. There is a butcher shop with all manner of meats, bread shops, coffees, specialty tea shops. Small cafe style places selling cakes, pastries and lunches.closes 6.00 pm
I tried the sausages with sultanas and salad which was tasty. The staff were very friendly and helpful
