Interesting museum
Aug 2020
The exhibition tells about the past and recent history of mail communications, not forgetting the present day. Many jobs that are now done over the internet were previously done by post.

For example, you can listen to touching letters from wartime years or you can study a world map with stamps from all over the world through a telescope.

An interesting Postal Museum
Oct 2019
When I was to Vapriikki I also visited the Finnish Postal Museum, which tells the story of Finnish postal history and different phenomena around messaging and transporting in different decades. The Finnish Postal Museum has a vast collection of artifacts and photos as well as stamps published in Finland, along with philatelic special exhibitions.

Nightmare ticket system
Dec 2017
I booked tickets via the internet but needed to change the date. I requested this and was given new dates, but no time on the ticket. Requested this and the dates changed again to an other date still no time, blah blah eight emails and a phone call later I was on my way but no longer feeling the excitement. On arrival more pandemonium ensued, people had printed off the ticket without time in and were told this was for the exhibition only and not the train, why they have both makes it a nightmare.
We saw the exhibition around the train but when I got home and looked at photos on the internet there was carridges and vans but we didn't know that existed. Feel really disappointed

Quick late evening visit
Dec 2017 • Friends
We visited this museum during our visit to Vapriikki Museum Centre. Since we arrived at the museum later in the evening we had to rush through these exhibitions. The postal museum had exhibitions about postal services during different times in Finland. It was fascinating to see how it evolved over time.

We had to cut short our visit to this museum as the place was about to close. An interesting place though.

History of the postal service
Mar 2017 • Couples
The exhibition shows clearly how the postal service evolved in time. Time and effort is spent to set-up the installation, nice to walk around and look at the different memorabilia. Well worth a quick visit while visiting other museums in the Vapriikki.

Detailed history of letter delivery in Finland
Mar 2016 • Friends
This small postal museum is now one of several consolidated at Vapriikki. It has an interesting history of mail delivery in Finland since the earliest days. The stories of how mail traveled in the earliest days will be interesting to most visitors, not just to heavyduty stamp collectors. But with an extensive exhibit of Finnish postage stamps, collectors will have plenty to look at as well.

Not a traditional post museum: well worth a visit
Oct 2015 • Friends
This is a recently restructured postal museum which moved to Tampere from Helsinki three years ago. This means that the layout and approach is new. What also makes this museum different from a lot of other postal museums is the way that it sets the history of postal services in their social, economic and in some cases, political, context.

Of course there are stamps, postal history, telegrams, and all that you would expect in a postal museum, taking the history of the postal services in Finland back to 1638, and there's a lot for the collector to appreciate.

However, there's also a lot for the general history enthusiast, for the family, and for a morning or afternoon's visit. The great thing here is that this specialist museum is set in a campus of specialist museums, which together make a day's visit a real pleasure. There's a restaurant, functional, not fancy, on site, and all of the usual facilities.

If you are visiting soon, there's a moving exhibition about refugees, or displaced persons, starting with a map of Wiborg (Viipuri), lost to Russia in 1944, with the keys used to lock the doors of some of the inhabitants as they left, hanging from the point on the map where the house in question was abandoned.

The theme is bravely continued to the present day with more recent refugees finding their way to Finland, and facing the same uncertain future as their precursors, seventy years ago. It moved me to tears.

Visit this museum if you can.

Something to see for the whole family, even world-class rarities
Aug 2015 • Family
First this museum was located in Helsinki where it was closed in 2012. After that it was opened in Tampere in 2014. Now they have very nice collections here. You can see stamps (some very rare), old photos, old films, historical objects, scale models etc. here. They even have the first car of the Finnish postal service in the collection. It is Adler and it was used in 1911. They also have the world's first electronic mail handling machine which was used in 1986. Altogether there are about 9000 objects in their collections. You may also meet a talking wax figure (an old post office clerk) who can speak also some foreign languages (use the push button to change languages). There is something for everybody in this museum.
