Socialistic Tampere
Jul 2020
The history of the city is dominated by its two great cotton mills, Tampella and Finlayson, the latter still operating but manufacturing in Turkey where the cotton grows. Working conditions were hard even 30-40 years ago, the constant noise of the machines and the ever present cotton dust ruined many healths. The force of the rising workers looking for social justice was more than understandable. To keep the factories running the owners were willing to accomodate their staff with housing, health and child care, own shops and managed thus to create a strong sense of community.

Free entrance, otherwise below average
Jan 2020
The entrance is free. There are points on the floor which could help you to follow the exhibition cronologically. I was not impressed of the exhibition.

A very good Museum
Aug 2019
The Labour Museum is located in the Finlayson Area.
It is a very interesting Museum, It is telling not only about Labour, but in general about Finlands history.
There is a large area about the Alkohol policy in Finland. Many stories about the Finish Wars, The Finish Kindergardens and many other things. It is a modern museum telling the story about the young country Finland. The Museum is open 11-18 and free to visit and we will for sure tell people to go there.

Interesting museum in the heart of the Finlayson industrial area, showcasing a number of exhibits about the history of Finland, the education system, state alcohol policy over time etc. Interesting and informative, free of charge- worth a visit for an hour or so.

Must-visit in Tampere
Dec 2018 • Family
Undoubtedly one of the most interesting museums I have been to. It's conveniently located in the center of tampere, it's easy to walk there from Keskustori. It's also free of charge - at the time when I visited. You can also buy some very unique gifts at their shop.

A look into the past of the area
May 2019 • Friends
I was with my local friend ,whom had never actually visited the museum before ,so we decided to go and be cultural and learn something's
This museum is free (donations are grateful accepted )
It will the biggest free museum in Finland
So there is a good amount of exhibits and information to help understand how the working conditions and life in general used to be
They do like to put mannequins frequently which in the case in the steam room , it was a little errie.
Photos and telling of pastimes and changing of the times , so for example , when the set hour working week was introduced and how this gave people more free time .....
The city has a rich history of sporting clubs and life improved over time .in this vibrant city
You can easily spend an hour or so here and there is enough to keep you occupied.
The shop has some nice gifts , local products .

Outstanding Museum!
Aug 2018 • Solo
This museum actually covers two aspects of labor-the daily lives of employees at the Finlayson factories, and the history of labor in general in Finland, and how labor organizations impacted govt policy. There’s a ton of content and interactive exhibits packed into the space, but you never feel overwhelmed. Everything is in both Finnish and English (which I really appreciated), and there are guide books in English as well lying on a bench as you enter the museum. I learned an enormous amount about the history of Finland, especially those pivotal choices that created the modern Finnish state. The staff is friendly and helpful-overall, just a very well done museum that is worth several hours of your time.

The Finnish Labor Museum Werstas offers an interesting account of the history of Finland from the perspective of the ordinary, working class Finns. Lots to see and think about!
