One of the landmarks in Tampere, very centrally located. Like many other places the bridge is affected by the construction of a tram line at the moment.

Great former redbrick factories border the mainly restrained rapids connecting the two lakes surrounding Tampere. The bridge is the central part of the main street Hämeenkatu leading from the railway station to Pyynikki. This summer it is also a big construction site as the new tramline is still under way.

The eastern and western ends of Hämeenkatu are connected by this 90-year-old bridge over the Tammerkoski rapids.
In connection with the redevelopment of Hämeenkatu, this stone bridge is under renovation at the moment.
The famous statues of the bridge, created by Wäinö Aaltonen, will be also restored.

Normally this should be a nice place in the center of Tampere.
But right now in August when we were there, a lot of construction is going on an most of the bridge is closed and not very nice.
They are building tram lines through the center which will be nice in the future, but now the bridge and the view is nothing special.

Every who has visited at Tampere, especially during summer seasons has passed through this old bridge. It has not so much exotic or architectural views, perhaps. Reason to take a look at it is because now is the last possible moments to do it. It's under massive construction works and will re-new as those new trams will start to operate on it, later. Remember that there has never been used / exist any trams.

Hameensilta is part of the massive construction project to bring a new tram line to the city of Tampere. The views are still pretty but it’s a messy environment right now. Once completed the bridge will be better than ever.

but now renovation is beginning to affect traffic.

There is major construction of a new tram underway in Tampere, and the bridge is partially closed. And, the iconic "anatomically correct" statues of naked men have all been stored away for safe-keeping, until the new bridge re-opens in 3 years. When we arrived in Tampere last may, the two local hockey teams, Tappara and Ilves, were facing each other in Finland's hockey playoffs, and the statues were dressed from the waist up in alternating team jerseys, but, "the goods" were still on display. Hey, this is Finland, we are adults when it comes to nudity.

Now it is unforgenately going to renovation and 2018-2021 it is not using. Only bictures you will see everywhere from City of Tampere.
