City museum - shipowner´s house
Jul 2020
The Marela shipowner´s house is a well restored document of a wealthy family´s home a couple of hundred years ago - although the original interior pieces have disappeared. The interiors document the life and circumstances and the original ceiling, door arch and other structures show early crfatmanship.

Interesting home museum
Aug 2019
This museum shows the bourgeois lifestyle of a wealthy shipowner and his family at the turn of the 1900s. That time was the golden age of seafaring in Rauma.

The details of the beautiful interior such as ceiling paintings, stoves, and furniture have been preserved in the same state.

Beautiful, small and well done
Aug 2019 • Couples
This shipowner's house is quite amazing to see. You can see they had a lot of money. Every room has its own heating system, big rooms, beautifully furnished.

If you're in Rauma, you MUST visit this museum

This is a gem of a museum. Beautiful decor with interesting family history. Staff in the museum were exceptionally welcoming giving us a personal tour. There were themed rooms of 40s,50s,60s,70s,80s &90s with items you can interact with including retro computer games and old vinyl records. Lots of fun 🤗

Bourgeois house of the 19th century in Rauma !
Jul 2017 • Couples
Marela Museum house is part of a 3 museum bundle with your 8€ ticket (or free with Museum Card). The house was probably the largest and most luxurious house in Rauma at the end of the 19th century. The owner was a prosperous owner of commerce shipping in Rauma, with several boats sailing far south from Finland.
The city has purchased the house in the second part of the 20th century to refurbish it to the original or inspired to archives about the house and the life in the 19th century.

This is a great house to see how the wealthy of the 1700s and 1800s lived. It is worth spending the time to learn about the family history and the changing of ownership and why and see how new technologies were incorporated over the centuries. There was a special lace exhibit in some of the rooms when we visited, which was lovely.

Excellent staff make visit special !
Jul 2016 • Family
A trip to Finland would not be complete without visiting beautiful Old Rauma and it would be unfortunate to leave without learning some of the history. This house belonged to a wealthy seagoing merchant and philanthropist and has been lovingly preserved. We asked at reception if headsets were available in English.they were not however, Ville a desk employee offered to take us on an impromptu tour translating in English and he succeeded in bringing the house to life. This kind of service cannot be praised enough !

Step back in time to a rich man's house
Jul 2016 • Family
The richest man in Rauma lived in this house 150 years ago. The house was both his home and office and gives a good idea how his life was like. The museum is tidy, informative and well organised. I love Old Rauma and was hoping to see how the people lived at the time, however the richest man's house is not representative of the population.

Like walking back in time
Jul 2015 • Couples
I loved this little museum that allows you to see the way a wealthy shipping family lived. You can also see how modifications were made over the years. It was Lace Week during our visit, so we also got to see many displays of lace and lacemakers at work. Definitely worth a visit.
