Windy Adventure!
Jun 2019 • Family
One of the most thrilling adventures in my life! The boat that we had to go to the island was small and the sea sort of choppy. We on the deck got drenched within a few minutes before we could go inside. But it was once in lifetime kind of experience. We went for a coffee in the restaurant and the view from the 8th floor was one of the most amazing sights in my life . It was as always they said like that and you fear to be blown away, and not easy to take pictures. But it's all worth it!! Strongly recommended to one and all!

Could be so much better
Aug 2018 • Family
The location itself is nice and worth a day trip. However, as a tourist/ visitor location it could be so much better with a little sprucing up and basically tlc. The water bus out to the island would be improved by more regular window cleaning and replacement of rotational fans, which were dirty. No problem with the driver- got us there safe- but the small laddy taking tickets and manning a poor excuse of a café was on his phone the whole time- noticed and discussed by everyone. The island itself should be cleaned up- paths are overgrown, any signs are old and broken and then replaced by A4 paper sheets held down by stones. There are 2 campfire spots, but no wood - just another A4 sheet telling you to buy firewood at the small shop for over 15€. Basically the island itself sells itself, and with some thought and heart, it would be so much better- such neglected potential.

Worth to visit
Jul 2018 • Friends
It takes about an hour boat ride from Rauma to Kylmapihlaja lighthouse. You can enjoy the beautiful Selkämeri islands during the boat ride.
The lighthouse island is not very big but there is a cafe and a restautant. And a hotel in the lighthouse.
There is a marvellous view from the sightseeing platform on the 9th door-6 of the lighthouse.
A 2hour visit was enough; I was able too see everything and enjoy the lovely weather.

What a place
Aug 2017 • Family
Beautiful island about 9 clicks from Rauma. A 50 minute water bad ride gets you there. We stayed overnight. Our child was a bit ill and the staff were very accommodating.

The food was fair to middling, but the location and views make this a value for money situation.

The rooms are kind of what you'd expect, to me a bit like my perception of what army barracks would be like. Rooms were clean though. Toilets shared, one on every other floor. Showers were a similar sort of arrangement. There were also sauna available.

Overall a great experience really

The most memorable attraction of the year and the paradise for nature lovers
Jul 2017 • Family
Kylmäpihlaja Lighthouse Island is achievable by boat from Poroholma Resort & Camping. The voyage from there to Kuuskajaskari and then to Kylmäpihlaja takes about 50 minutes. You get tickets from a ticket booth. They are not sold on the boat. It is also possible to make a reservation online but you must retrieve tickets from the booth.

Kylmäpihlaja Island (9 hectares) is situated on the border of the open sea, nine kilometers westward from Rauma. The island is full of nature and it belongs to Selkämeri National Park. A common sea buckthorn is a typical plant there. Terns and barnacle geese are common animals. You see them everywhere. There are also some snakes there but you don't have to worry about them if you are not going to walk on boulder soil with separate rocks. The solid rock is a safe place.

I loved those solid rocks or cliffs. They are wonderful places to sit down, relax and listen to the sounds of nature, namely waves and terns. If you are there in the evening, you will also see a wonderful sunset provided that the weather is good.

There are a small visitor center, a summer cafeteria and a free campfire site on the island. The most prominent building is the lighthouse which was built in 1953. There are toilets (water closets), a free observation deck, a good restaurant and a hotel in the lighthouse building.

Enjoy the delicious archipelago buffet (in the summer 2017 daily 11 am - 3 pm) in the restaurant or order something from the á la carte menu (open until 9 pm). I ate harbor master's beef made of Angus beef fillet and it was very delicious.

You see the island in 1-2 hours but I recommend that you stay overnight in Kylmapihlaja Lighthouse (read separate TripAdvisor reviews about that hotel or B&B). Just so you can admire the sunset and sunrise, too. Colors are marvelous on the island!

It is hard to decide if Old Rauma with wooden houses or Kylmäpihlaja Lighthouse Island is the most important sight in Rauma. I recommend that you visit both of them.
