Mostly contemporary art
Aug 2019
This museum is located by the river Kokemäenjoki in the city center.

The building was originally built in 1860 and renovated in 1981 for museum use.

The museum has several art collections as well as changing exhibitions.

However, many works are in storage. You can also visit the storage space.

On our visit, there was the fifth exhibition in the Collector’s Gaze series: Arto Jurttila - With the Eyes of My Mind. It was an okay exhibition. However nothing spectacular.

The museum has also a library, picture archive, shop, and a cafe.

Very interesting modern exhibitions
Apr 2018 • Couples
Museum is small in size. Handy for visits. You do not need more than 60 minutes of time. Place is never crouded. Exhibitions are modern and I find them well done. Curator is good and has obviously good connection in art scene.

Very interesting well-curated exhibitions
Feb 2018 • Family
We were lucky enough to find two very interesting and well-curated exhibitions on the day we visited. One was of various artists from Damascus, the works by Nisrine Boukhari we found particularly striking. The other exhibition was showcasing work by Ana Torfs and was extremely thought-provoking, too.

Great Café
Jun 2017 • Friends
The Pori Art Museum is quite small but it has some interesting art and it is situated on a beautiful river. They have a great café with some delicious local food, as well as a nice book selection in the gift shop.

There is a lot of art here
Mar 2017
We could drive right up to the museum. We parked outside and entered to discover a large number of exhibits nicely curated. The beauty of this place is that this is a huge place to house the exhibition and secondly it gives you a taste of variety of art styles. Over time (on my second visit) I found new attractions added to the place

Excellent exhibition this summer

The oil paintings of Eggert Pétursson are fabulous. An unique mixture of abstract and highly detailed they show us the multitude of the flora of Iceland. The museum is modern and nice. There is free parking and a cafe.

We really enjoyed the various exhibitions, the major one featured some wonderful paintings by an Icelandic artist. The staff are very helpful, there are good facilities and an interesting shop,

contemporary art museum with a very good cafeteria
Jan 2016 • Solo
Changing exhibitions, so one can visit several times per year. The cafeteria is excellent and very affordable, and they also serve lunch, even on Saturdays. And you can read today's newspapers there as well.

War, the Stasi and giant toys
Aug 2015 • Solo
I visited the temporary exhibitions whilst in Pori - Daniel & Geo Fuchs. The first exhibition was called Toy Giants and consisted of giant photos of toys - I wrote in my diary at the time that it was a bit disturbing but oddly compelling at the same time. The second one was about the Stasi - photographs of now derelict Stasi buildings with furniture, pictures etc. still intact. Very interesting. Also a small installation about war.
