Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

From Toivola Old Courtyard you can find artisan’s boutiques and workshops, Toivola Restaurant, and craftsmen’s homes.
The Coppersmith’s House and the Carpenter’s House are the oldest remaining wooden residences in Jyväskylä. They were built in the 1840s.
These craftsmen's homes have functioned as interesting museums since the mid-1950s. Here you can experience what life has been 180 years ago.

Small museum which is really just a particular 19th century house that has been transplanted to the site which has a couple of original publicly owned Finnish buildings attached to enterprise craft village.
Open conversation with Finnish guide at house, who was well versed in the personal histories and the living conditions of the occupants which really put the the living situation, the economic environment and the social mores of the time in context. Ask about sleeping arrangement, the cobbler and his trade, cooking arrangements and movement of the families for their various tasks.
Really enjoyed it because the guide was so good, no formal tour just a brief outline and available and happy to answer any questions subsequently even some not immediately connected to the house.
The larger house has cafe/restaurant. Lemon/Liquorice Cheescake was a new experience. The yard has various craft workshops with goods for sale.

Old Courtyard artisan’s boutiques and workshops, Café Muisto and the Museum of Central Finland’s craftsmen’s homes are open for visitors throughout the year. It’s a nice experience to have a coffee with a good variety of pastries or a light lunch on a patio or inside the café.
Those buildings and yard are an example of an artisan’s home and courtyard, from a time when the buildings of downtown Jyväskylä were predominantly made of wood. Thereare two houses which are the oldest remaining wooden residences in Jyväskylä. The Easter Market, the Summer Market, the Hansa Market, and the Christmas Market are nice and long-awaited events n Jyväskylä. There is also theatre plays during the summertime! “A must visit place” in Jyväskylä!

I visited this old corner with some friends. They said it is something special in Jyväskylä, where there is hardly anything to see anyway. So we went to see this famous garden place.
Dissapointing was, that this area is not really a historical spot, but a build up scenery of old good days mixed with booths. Confusing.
First impression is that it is partly old and at the same time stuffed with old style buildings, activities and eatery stands. I did not know were to start and were to end. Confusing.
We had at the café a pizza for lunch which was tasty, no problem. Friendly service! After lunch we were walking again in the garden and it got very crowdy. The area is really small and cramped, so you really need to try to get to the next spot through all the crowd. You really need only max. ten minutes to see the area through.
After a while we got fed up and left the area. Then suddenly you are standing on a sidewalk in a modest town with ugly 60-70´s flats around you. What a difference. From there we tried to search something more spacious in the town, but found nothing. I felt a little bit betrayed after driving several hours to see this all.
The Toivolan vanha piha is far too small for these nice activities they have there. Very sad for the entrepeneurs. There are no parking facilities or to be precise, try to find a free spot by driving round the corners or from the parking lot across the street.
When we were walking around Jyväskylä we noticed there is hardly anything left from the original town itself. All wooden and brick old buildings are gone and replaced with flats. Parks in the center are tiny and modest. Even the market place is tiny here!!???

This is great place to visit, not only is it full of old buildings, but it also contains little hand craft shops, a blacksmith, museum tour of old coppersmith building and cafe in a compact area. This is a must if your in Jyvaskyla.

I think the best things about this place are that it has rustic character in town, some age to the buildings, and in the summer there is open access between the inside and the outside at the back which is a bit like a farmyard.

We have gone there many times. On a summer weekend the place bustles with activity. The old buildings are open with vendors selling their wares. The restaurant has different musical groups coming in the play for the guests. It has a lovely festive feel about the place. Like you stepped back in time...

We went here since we were told they used serve coffee from espresso machine.
Turned out new owners had taken over in the end of May 2018. No more espresso.
Well, the outdoor setting was nice, similar to a German Biergarten, although certainly nice only in rain-free summer days.

History is present here and the cafe Muisto is worth a visit. While the small shops are a bit expensive the products sold the seem to be of good quality :)
