Vesilinna observation tower is situated on top of the Harju ridge, which is a popular recreational area with pine forests in the middle of the city. The main route from the city center to Harju runs through the majestic Nero stairs completed in 1925. The Vesilinna tower was built in 1953. It serves as a water and observation tower. Its observation deck offers magnificent views in all directions. I must say that the city looks much better from here than from the street level. You can also find the pleasant Cafe & Restaurant Vesilinna and the interesting Natural History Museum of Central Finland from here.

Vesilinnan näkötorni (Vesilinna Observation Tower) or Harjun torni (Harju Tower) is a free observation tower. You see the whole center and surrounding lakes from there. View is very beautiful. The observation tower has the same opening hours as Vesilinna Restaurant. You can take a free lift (an elevator), which goes almost to the top. You have to walk only last steps. There is a roof on the observation deck. So you can admire the scenery in rainy days, too. Besides, in sunny days the observation deck may be quite hot. "A song for the native place" is played from the tower every summer evening at 8 p.m. This was a very nice experience, too.
