Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

On a sunny day this is a must trip by boat. Historical castle with guidance of the most sweetest guide ever. Interesting history.

Svartholm Fortress is sister fortress of Suomenlinna Fortress in Helsinki. It is located just outside of City of Loviisa on a small Svartholm island. It is served with a boat from Loviisa.
Fortress was destroyed by British Navy in 1850s and has repaired. There is small museum, which offers for free historical details about fortress and life on island during its existence.
It is perfect destination on a sunny day.

What a lovely little sea fortress. It was nice just to wander around a enjoy the ruons and the scenery. A short boat trip from Loviisa to the fortress was really worth it.

Let's be honest, the centerpiece of the fortress is that modern red-bricked grave looking space with few prints about the history of the place that could have been easily found online. Basically, we paid €18 each (boat ride) for this and some uneducated guides with very poor English (their Finnish didn't sound authentic either) behaving like monkeys and leaving no chance to feel any spirit of the fortress past. We decided against walking around the island after we read the warnings about vipers and ticks! We nailed a ride back 30 min past our arrival (otherwise one gets stuck there for two and a half hours)! We prayed to return safely to Loviisa: the operator sinking his eyes into his phone most of the time in windy weather and the boat itself being quite worn out with 2 life rings in vision (two benches along the windows and one bigger in the middle can fit about 40). All above explains no lines for departures in Loviisa. A total rip off!
Walking the remnants of fortresses in Hamina and Laapperanta and an unfinished fortress in Loviisa plus visiting the magnificent Olaflinna made our good memories of Finland!

Svartholm seafortress is the "smaller sister" of Suomenlinna. Svartholm lies in the archipelago of Loviisa and can be reached only by boat in the summer or crossing the ice during part of the winter (recommended only for experienced skiers/skaters/hikers). During the summer there is a regular connection from the Loviisan laivasilta. The trip takes 30 minutes. The last boat back from the island leaves at 5:30 pm.
Beutiful sea views, a summer restaurant and a lot of partially ruined ramparts from the 1740s to 1750s.

Nice place with free boat parking, not that much to see as it is a small island. Sadly the restaurant closes early in the summer but bring your own stuff and it will be a blast! With good weather it is a really nice place!

A place to visit in Loviisa. A ferry runs on summertime from the town harbour to the fort. There is also a small bar open during the summer. Some activities for the children. Guided tour inside the fortress for a very small fee.

The fortress is worth a visit if your into history, thou it was pretty much damaged in a previous was. Quite small takes about 30-45minutes to walk thru it all(maybe even quicker?) The only downfall is the restaurant, the staff are nice and all but badly organized. We waited 1hour and 45minutes for two fish and chips and two chicken baskets.. They did warn us that it might take one hour but after 1.h 15min they promised to deliver in 5-10mins which took half an hour!! The regretred that they only had one chef that day but on a hot summer sunday they just hadnt organized or care at all. No compensation nothing. So eat in Loviisa and just order drinks. Ps this was my third visit and third time that ive waited way too long but it was also my last time. Ive will thou buy a beer from them no hard feelings
