We took the number 3 to see around the city and definitely was worth it. Nice and easy. Totally recommended it!

I took the tram twice when visiting Helsinki, and each experience was excellent. The vehicles are clean and comfortable, and announcements played in the tram ensure nobody misses their stop easily. The price may be a little steep, but for the quality and quantity of the system, a day pass or a few trips paid each day are worth it. You can access all the main attractions in downtown and beyond in a matter of minutes, all while avoiding traffic and reducing carbon emissions.

A big round of applause to Helsinki for running such a paradigm of a public transit system for your residents and visitors! World cities should study this and learn from how Helsinki does it. It’s certainly one of the best tram networks in Europe, if not the world flat-out. :)

Was surprised to find how clean the carriages were. Not always the case in capital cities. Recommend buying an all day ticket ( one day ticket is valid 24h from time of purchase) as you could jump on and off as you wish. We travelled the whole of route no. 2 just to get a feel and site of the city from a different perspective. Recommended.

Scandinavia is not cheap. The public transportation system are especially expensive (compared to other places). Not reliable services as well.

Nowadays I live in a neighborhood not connected to Helsinki tram system, but it's still a big part of my idea of moving around in the city. Couldn't imagine Helsinki without those green wanderers... Still, I think it ought to be possible to buy your ticket from the driver!
Anyways, with a day ticket you can have a good sightseeing your for almost free.

Once you have a ticket, the system is very good. But at the start we were incredibly frustrated because we had to search for an hour just to buy a ticket. This should be more simple.

Pretty basic tram system in central Helsinki. The routes are clear and the trams are usually on time.
However, the system is really difficult to access. There is a severe lack of ticket automats at stations which may make the attempt of taking a tram next to impossible. Tickets can be bought online as well, however for us even that proved tricky. Not to mention that not everyone even has the necessary device for purchasing said tickets.
While the system works well if you have a ticket, for a tourist who lacks one it could be quite the nightmare!

The experience with Helsinki tram system was wonderful. The trams are very much connected to every part of the city. We baught online HSL tickets which allows to travel on any public transport for the limited duration which was very convenient.

The tram system allows you to travel in an inexpensive way around the city while seeing sights. The stops are everywhere and show you when the next one will arrive so it doesn't require much experience to use it. The drivers won't sell tickets anymore so be sure to purchase the pass ahead of time or use mobile tickets (instructions for example on the stops, but requires a bit of preparation). Be sure to be able to prove you've got a ticket or you'll be fined.
