Nice - but probably better before 1st November
Nov 2020
The winter garden was quite busy and had a decent selection of flora although more focussed on leafy trees than flowers (the orchid wall was not in bloom either). Unfortunately the gorgeous rose garden is closed between November and April and that would have been a highlight. Probably worth 4 stars as an attraction while the rose garden is also open.

Halloween roses
Oct 2020
We visited this 127-year-old garden on 31 October. We were surprised the roses were still in full bloom in the Rose Garden in front of the Winter Garden. The autumn has been exceptionally warm.

The garden is best known for its glass building that has three parts: a palm room, a cactus room, and a west wing. Here you can experience the greenery also during the winter months.

The entrance is free.

Small Chrystal Palace
Apr 2020
The steel and glass constructions became popular in Europe after the first was succesfully built in 1851 for the Great Exhibition in London. One of our famous Art Nouveau architects Gustaf Nyström designed the Winter Garden in 1893 for Jacob af Lindfors whose bust stands in front. The collection consists mainly of tropical flora which have managed to survive even in our cold weather. Both the building and the large Eläintarha puisto, Zoo Garden were donated to the city, the latter by another patron Henrik Borgström whose memorial is located on the hill shaded by trees.

Warm and cozy, so beautiful Old building full of trees, plants and flower. There are also tables and chairs to sit and relax. Great place to meet friends. And in summer there is a Rose garden too.
And free of charge.

The free winter garden founded in 1893
Dec 2019
You find over 200 different plant species in this free winter garden. They have three rooms. I especially loved the palm garden and the cactus garden. Their oldest plant is a common camellia (Camellia japonica, also known as tsubaki), which is about 130 years old. In summer they also have an outdoor rose garden. Besides, there are memorial oaks next to the garden (outside the fence, on the side of Vauhtitie Street), e.g. the memorial oak of Jean Sibelius. The oldest memorial oak for Leo Mechelin was planted in 1899.

A good place to visit
Nov 2019
A wonderful place to relax and have a rest. Looks beautiful from the outside and the inside, there are multiple places for reading and for taking pictures. It is also free of charge to visit. However, there is not much space inside so it's not suited for big crowds. Also there is no place to buy food nearby.

Nice, beautifull and warm, especially in winter
Jan 2019 • Friends
Nice change when in Helsinki during winter. The contrast with the cold and snow is refreshing! Go there on foot, walk by the lake!

Beautiful Quiet Respite
Sep 2018 • Couples
Most of the time when we visit a place we are busy trying to see this and that. This is a small location with two different displays of plants inside and lovely gardens outside. If you are a go in, shoot some quick pics and on to the next place this will probably take less than a half hour. I'd plan to bring a lunch or a book and sit a while and enjoy it's quiet beauty.
