Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely building on quiet street. It was once the one of the old Opera and ballet Currently it is used as a theater fro drama, comedy ballet. Opera etc. It is located on one of the quieter streets in the city. The gorgeous facade cannot miss your eyes and you must what what building is that, if you didn't previously know...very eye-catching. For those so inclined, the next performance awaits you.

This theater building was completed in 1879. It is named after Russian Tsar Alexander II.
The Finnish National Opera and Ballet performed in the premises until 1993 when they moved to the new Opera House on the Töölö Bay.
Since 1993, the theater has been used for visiting stage performances of various genres.
The exterior has started to decay and is in need of renovation.

Alexander Theater still offers a great experience in culture. We went to see opera Tiresia's Breasts, a good one, though rarely seen. Theater as itself is not in a very good condition, but still it does not ruin your evening.

Named after the Czar Alexander II and designed by Pjotr Petrovits Benard in 1879 the theater served as a visiting venue for performer groups arriving from St.Petersburg. After the Russian revolution and Finnish independence the building became the National Opera house for over 70 years until 1993 when the modern and larger new location was opened at Töölönlahti. Now the theater has returned to its origins offering all kinds of visiting performances, ballet, opera, drama, comedy and even circus, sometimes in Russian too.

The theatre is undergoing a major renovation. However, its grandeur is no less apparent. The theatre is not easy to access and it was only a stroke of good luck and the kindness of the young lady at the ticket window that I received a mini private tour. Opened in 1879 while Finland was still part of the Russian Empire, it reflects the extravagances of that era. If you can get in it is worth it.

My most frequently visited theater by far due to the beautiful building which is in need of upgrade. The plays are small and they run for a limited time. The bar is excellent, book a table when you have your tickets. Nice pastries.

This gorgeous theatre was sanctioned by Czar Alexander II and when completed was named after him in 1890. From 1918 until 1993 it was the home of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet.
When they moved to their grand modernist building off Mannerheimintie it reverted to its original role and regained its previous name.
The facades both on Albertinkatu and Bulevardi are delightful. Beautiful ornate stonework with lovely arches are terrific architectural features.

This old building used to be the home for the Finnish national Ballet and Opera. There was a reason why a new building was built for them. While the building is great to go and see, it is simply outdated for having modern performances. For history lovers it must be a pleasant experience but not so much for those who would like have an enjoyable night with the performance itself. So mixed feelings and difficult to score, have to go in the middle with this one.

This building is former Finnish National Opera. Now it has dance and theatre performances. It is very beautiful inside. Red velvet and gold. It is originally built for the emperor of Russia. But the building is in bad condition and needs total renovation.
