Finnish Design but also other famous design
We spent here three-four hours on rainy February afternoon. This museum gives a nice view to Finnish Design, but also other famous designers are visible. This is suitable to anyone who want to have a look at the highlights of Finnish Design. Truly recommendable.

    Interesting Nordic design
We have visited many times at this museum. There is a permanent exhibition but every time there is something new to see. Alongside the known Finnish design, the exhibition showed this time the work of Nordic designers from the 1940s to the present day. In the basement was a striking exhibition showing works using Schick Toikka fonts.

    Amazing
The museum is a must-see for anyone interested in design. It features the best of Finnish design, from furniture to fashion and everything in between. Its permanent exhibition is a treasure trove of information on Finnish design, featuring both historical and contemporary pieces. You can explore the extensive collection of furniture, ceramics, glassware, textiles, and much more. Temporary exhibits also include graphic design, fashion, and industrial design. One of the highlights of the Design Museum is its temporary exhibitions, which showcase the work of both local and international designers. The museum's interactive displays and hands-on exhibits make it an excellent destination for visitors of all ages, and its knowledgeable staff is always on hand to answer any questions. Overall, the Design Museum in Helsinki is an essential destination for anyone interested in design and its role in Finnish culture. The museum's extensive collection, temporary exhibitions, and interactive displays make it an excellent experience for visitors of all ages.

We visited this place during our first trip to Helsinki. We like northern design. The special exhibition with carpets is amazing. The standard collection with design examples is also very interesting. The building is art on his own.

Good to know Finnish designs and inventings which Finnish people are proud of. We are happy to see the modern part as well. The exhibitions of the carpets filled too much on the top floor. We expected to see more local inventing furnitures and Maybe also some to sit on or to interactivate. The part is missing

For the price of 15 euros, I expect much more. I don't know what the lineup was like before, but the current one is not good. Finnish design crammed into 3 rooms. For example, Alvar Aalto and Eero Aarnio deserve much, much more space and information about them. It would be great if there were some interactive exhibits, where you can try some chairs.
Souvenir shop also nothing special.
I left disappointed after 30 minutes.

Awesome exhibition of Kustaa Saksi textile designs this summer. Good spacey rooms to look around. Can be reached by public transport.

Lovely to explore - and get to learn more about the fantastic Finnish designers. My daughter and I especially enjoyed the ground floor permanent exhibition about design in Finland throughout the ages. It’s suitable for all ages. There’s activities for smaller and bigger kids. Nice souvenir shop and cafe, too.

We're giving this a "4" for most visitors, but it would be a 5 if you have a particular interest in design.

The Design Museum is a lot of fun. It focuses, as you would expect, on Finnish designers, but they have been very creative and influential.

Behind the reception/ticket desk you will see dozens of Fiskars scissors stuck into a board. This is striking, but it turns out that the scissors were designed in Finland. A display points out that Princess Leia’s necklace at the end of the first Star Wars movie was also design by a Finn. The rest of the museum shows items ranging from the game “Angry Birds” to the round/spherical chairs that I believe were in the first “Men in Black” movie. It also includes things such as typewriters and toys.

They have special exhibits on the upper level and in the basement. During our visit, they had creative and often abstract quilts. The basement involved some fairly abstract geometric patterns and lights.

The building itself appears to be an old school with some cool design elements itself. Take a look at the iron work in the staircases.

The museum was easy to reach by streetcar - it was directly across a small square from the tram stop.

This isn’t a large museum, but it’s easy to reach by streetcar and is a fun place to visit.

Finland is known for design. The museum, that is already quite old, is just south of the center. Entrance fee of 20 euros is included in the Helsinki card. There are three floors. The ground floor shows different typical Finnish designs of furniture, glass and clothes. One floor up there are amazing works of textile, carpets and embroideries. The lowest floor had an exhibition of lights with explanations that I may call not so easy to understand. But overall it was a nice experience.

Extremely disappointing maybe because one section was closed and it may have held one section of the gems. However the current display was almost no curation at all or left overs from way too long ago.

Finland is renowned for its brilliant designers in almost every category and this representation does not do them any justice at all. Hardly enough material to fill a decent magazine article let alone a museum!
