Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The massive Art Nouveau church in granite by Lars Sonck from 1912 can be seen all the way from Observatory Hill in Southern Helsinki along Unioninkatu. New Helsinki University buildings in Hakaniemi will further frame it when finished. Decorations inside are quite sparse with painted rose garlands so the large crucifix by Hannes Autere from 1952 hanging from the ceiling gets center stage. Internationally acclaimed collectors favourite Paavo Tynell designed the huge chandeliers in 1932.

This isn’t the most incredible church you’ll ever visit but there is an interesting story behind it, it’s easy to get to, and has an interesting elevated position.
The interior is relatively sparse as you’d expect for a church of this denomination so the highlight is undoubtedly the organ, which we had the pleasure of listening to briefly as the organist was practising when we visited.
The exterior is very impressive and can be seen from some distance away, particularly as you leave Hakaniemi market and walk northwards.

After my visiting of Botanic Garden, I decided to go and visit KALLION KIRKKO, because this monumental building looked very nice.
When I came inside, I was impressed really.
You can see some photos, I was taken, and you will understand why I was impressed.

This is a church by the leading Finnish Jugend/Art Nouveau Architect Lars Sonck, built in 1910's. This is at the end of the Jugend period, so it kind of leans towards American skyscraper modernism. Beautiful, great feel for material

Very much worth a visit vhile in Kallio district (Highly recommended) Kallio Church is, if not the most beautifful in finland of its kind, a very interesting place to deeepen your undersanding of Finlands very own national romantic way of art nuveau. For the most interesting church of this kind You have to take a train and visit the Tampere Dome !

Plan a half-hour of a day in Helsinki to visit this lovely church. Built on a hill at the head of Helsinki's longest street, the churche's steeple tower can be seen from quite a distance. The stone exterior is impressive... but when you step inside, you may find yourself both awed and humbled. This may not be the most ornate church in Finland, but it is certainly among the most beautiful. On a sunny day, light floods the sanctuary and highlights the large wooden crucifix suspended above the altar. The two pipe organs are lovely. For those of a spiritual bent and lovers of architecture, this is one of Helsinki's must-see locations.

This tall monolithic structure stands out like a beacon in Helsinki and can be seen in the distance by almost everyone. We just wanted to see what it was, so my wife and I walked the long straight street up to the front and found our way inside. It is a Lutheran Church and it almost was empty, no tourists or worshipers at all. So tranquil and peaceful. It has a huge organ and seems like it would make a wonderful sound in the stone building. The building has interesting frescoes and decoration on the walls. The Kallio Church was designed by architect Lars Sonck and is one of the most famous landmarks in Helsinki. The church was completed in 1912 and is one of the purest representatives of the National Romantic Building in architecture in Finland. The Kallio Church is located at Itäinen Papinkatu 2 and the church is open on weekdays from 7.00 am to 2.00 pm and from 9.00 am to 7.00 pm on weekends. We were really lucky to be there just before the closing time, so we could see inside. Worth a look, if you are passing by and or perhaps, aim to attend a service.

Saw this building when walking up from the Hakaniemi Market and instantly thought I have to go and have a look. Has the look of something out of Fritz Lang movie Metropolis from the outside but when inside is very austere still worth a look though.
I also liked the outside lights which reminded me of Charles Rennie Mackintosh designs

Kallio Church has a very solid look to it with its Art Nouveau design. The bell tower is huge with a green dome in front of it. Inside is beautiful too but keep in mind it is in the fairly spartan in the Lutheran tradition. It is much simpler inside than the Helsinki Cathedral. An interesting feature is the curved ceiling with matching chandeliers. This church is very well worth a look.

Three of us, women, from USA, will be visiting Helsinki this summer. Is train or bus easier to reach Ainola? How much total time should we allow for the visit to Ainola? Should we book transportation before leaving US? What about the train or bus schedule? How widely is English spoken and how much signage is in English? Are there special events for 150 anniversary year? Thank you.
