The massive Art Nouveau church in granite by Lars Sonck from 1912 can be seen all the way from Observatory Hill in Southern Helsinki along Unioninkatu. New Helsinki University buildings in Hakaniemi will further frame it when finished. Decorations inside are quite sparse with painted rose garlands so the large crucifix by Hannes Autere from 1952 hanging from the ceiling gets center stage. Internationally acclaimed collectors favourite Paavo Tynell designed the huge chandeliers in 1932.

The location, the architecture, and the Sibelius bell melody (at 12 and 6 p.m.). The longest and most interesting bell melody in Finland.

Sitting atop a hill, this art nouveau church is gorgeous. It's clean lines and tall tower invite you in. Once inside, the spare interior invites mediation and contemplation. There aren't any other churches like it. Don't miss it.

A huge church that is visible a long way. I wasn’t that impressed by the interior though except for the light coming through the windows that looked very nice.

After my visiting of Botanic Garden, I decided to go and visit KALLION KIRKKO, because this monumental building looked very nice.
When I came inside, I was impressed really.
You can see some photos, I was taken, and you will understand why I was impressed.

We visited the Kallio district in Helsinki as we read it was the hipster area of Helsinki, full of nice cafes and brunch places.

The church was a sort of afterthought, but hey, its impossible to miss this commanding structure right in the middle of the hill.

It's not hard to walk up, but it does take some time from the centre of town, but if you do get a chance to walk by, its a nice photo spot. We came on a Sunday and saw the procession during Sunday mass. A nice to see if you're in the area, but i wouldn't say it is worth walking all the way from town for this.

Plan a half-hour of a day in Helsinki to visit this lovely church. Built on a hill at the head of Helsinki's longest street, the churche's steeple tower can be seen from quite a distance. The stone exterior is impressive... but when you step inside, you may find yourself both awed and humbled. This may not be the most ornate church in Finland, but it is certainly among the most beautiful. On a sunny day, light floods the sanctuary and highlights the large wooden crucifix suspended above the altar. The two pipe organs are lovely. For those of a spiritual bent and lovers of architecture, this is one of Helsinki's must-see locations.

This is another very impressive Lutheran church in Helsinki. It is not a particularly opulent church but still beautifully appointed. Its most striking feature is its grand steeple visible from a great distance as the church was built on a hill. This church is opened later in the day so your visit can be scheduled later. There is a cafe' but it was not opened.

This grey granite church was designed by Lars Sonck in National Romantic style and it was completed in 1912. It is one of the most prominent landmarks of Helsinki.

The seven German bells in the granite tower play a tune by Jean Sibelius at noon and six o'clock pm.

Kallio church is the only church in Finland to have both a Baroque organ and a French organ.
