I'm just now realising that there was an Alvar Alto exhibition on when my husband and I visited last week (how did we miss that?!). We would have loved to have seen that. (And there was a Modigliani exhibition in February - Ateneum has some...More

This is a must see for everyone who wants to learn about Finnish art. Alvar Aalto was the temporary exhibition this year. Nice, but a bit limited in size. The fixed collection contains beautiful paintings of sometimes grim situations. Scenes of real life that seem...More

This was an accidental museum visit (looking for a bathroom) but a delightfully rewarding one. The classics of Finnish art are displayed here, arranged chronologically and connected to Finnish history and culture. The captions are clearly written and interesting. The Alvar Aalto exhibit, focused on...More

Fantastic collection of Finnish painting and sculpture. At times I wasn't sure if I was looking at the landscapes of Finland or Northern Ontario! Bonus: special exhibit of work by Alvar and Aino Aalto in celebration of the 100 anniversary (would have liked to see...More

This museum is definitely worth a visit. They have numerous great master paintings--far more than you usually see in Nordic collections. I would allow 1-2 hours.
