Very interesting, old, beautiful and quiet swimming hall in the middle of the city (Yrjönkatu 21). Specially known not only because of it's beauty, but also as customers are allowed to swim there without swimming suits - although the suits are not forbidden. Worth visiting, surely, while it's good to remember that because of nudity, men and women have separate... More

If you are staying overnight in Helsinki, I strongly recommend you to visit the second floor of Yrjönkadun uimahalli ("Yrjönkatu Swimming Hall") to have a sauna, swim and eat. The building was designed by architect Väinö Vähäkallio in 1928, and it is a sight in itself (especially the interieur). The hall is beautiful Art Deco / Nordic Classicism of the... More

The Yrjönkadun Swimming hall is a must for everyone who enjoys swimming, going to the sauna and exotic experiences! It's a beautiful place built in the 1920s. The changing rooms are around the pool and quite open, so it is single-sex only with separate days for men and women, and you can either use a bathing suite or swim nude.... More

Locals we talked to about swimming and sauna (locally pronounced as sour-na) all recommended we go to the newish open air sea pool but it was snowing and we're wimps. We came here instead. The pool is lovely and starts off at 0.9m at the shallow end and is over 3m at the other end. We went on Sunday morning... More

Swimming nude in a masterpiece of architectural design isn't something many of us ever consider, but it is a weekly activity for many people in Helsinki, who come to visit Yrjönkadun Uimahalli on alternate days (men on tuesdays, thursdays and saturdays). The upper floor is a tad more expensive, but you get your own berth and access to the services... More

I like this place, it's a good swimming hall, mostly because of the atmosphere. Have learned to appreciate the fact that there are not lot of children here, tranquility. Would recommend visit during early mornings, before lunch time and early afternoon, after 4pm the place gets crowded and the tranquility disappears. There's also difference with the guest/users, during mornings and... More

Wanna try Finnish sauna? There are three different kind of saunas in this very beautiful old swimming hall: a basic Finnish sauna (electric), an old fashioned one heated with wood, and a steam bath, too. There's only one pool but the decoration is beautiful. Closets is the 1st floor are cheaper, but it's worthfile to rent a little bit more... More

It is beautiful historic swimming hall and well maintained. Pool and sauna were spotless clean. And it had what I call a Finnish atmosphere, pleasant and relaxed. Most bathers swam in the nude, so I did the same. I paid 5,50 € for 2 hours on the 1st floor (the 2nd floor was closed). In this price is included the... More

Yrjönkatu swimming hall is Finlands oldest (1928) public swimming hall. It's been nominated one of the most beautiful swimming halls in the world by BBC. The hall is opened for either women or men (check the schedule before you go), and this was traditionally a hall where you wore no swimsuit for hygienic reasons. Nowadays you are allowed to were... There's no doubt that this place was truly authentic. While the facilities themselves may be outdone by your typical American facilities, the history of this place is amazing. Clientele were mostly older locals who treated it much like a country club. Grab a 2nd floor cabin and take a seat at the table outside of your stall to order a... More
