The building facade overlooks the market square. At first sight, it doesn`t stand out from the raw of mansions on the waterfront. Grandiose building without excessive pomposity! The fact, that it `s the residence of the head of the state can be guessed by the guard standing at the door of the palace. When the President is at work, the... More

The palace is centrally located at a convenient location overlooking the water. It is quite modest as a presidential palace. It is interesting to note that the President has to share hands continuously for two or three hours just to shake hands with guests for the annual event and Finnish people would follow the event closely.

This is an elegant building on the north side of Esplanadi overlooking Market Square. I could not find Market Square on TA so will review both here. The palace was built in the early 19th century as a merchants house but was soon acquired by Tsar Nicholas 1. It became a hospital in WW1 and was the official residence of... More

The president castle is located in the Pohjoisesplanadi near the market square. Take a walk to the market square and have a coffee in the warm tent. Maybe you will see our good president there.

The palace is located across from the harbor with a magnificent view of the water. The building is impressive and elegant although not ornate or spectacular. As with many of the old buildings in Helsinki, it has a rich history. Dating back to the mid nineteenth century, it played a significant role in Finland's Tsarist Russian history. Used by the... Although I was not impressed by other buildings in Finland and although this palace seems to be plain compared to other palaces I visited in Europe, still it was an elegant one, especially after the equally elegant City Hall. Of course it is no Versailles or Schoen Brunn, but it is its simple architecture and nicely chosen colour which attracted... More

I am afraid this is one palace that didn't do anything for me, the building looks very bland and not at all impressive considering the other palaces I have seen.

An elegant building in a central street in city centre. Look at it from many different perspectives so that you will enjoy it in all its majesty!

You can't go in and the building itself is less than inspiring. However, not for Finland the barriers separating the Head of State's palaces that exist in the UK. That's what really strikes one.
