Entry to the museum was free which was great and it's designed for families with plenty of things for children to see. The museum is situated just off the Senate Square. The staff were all very friendly and spoke good English. They have a nice gift shop, cafe and clean toilets inside. The museum is spread over several floors and has a wide range of exhibits with many designed to interest children, although plenty for the adults to see as well! The museum gives you a history of Helsinki with photos and exhibits including rooms to show how people lived in the past. There was also a large model showing the city. Well worth a visit especially if it's raining!

I popped in mainly to look at the shop, but as it was raining and the museum entry is free, I decided to check out the exhibits. There is a good sized locker area for leaving bags and coats and outside there was a covered area for leaving large prams. I think there were also some toilets here but I'm not certain.
I found it a little bit confusing to work out which floors had exhibits, the main one I ended up on had an interest walk through history of Helsinki. I particularly liked the picture that showed you a view of the city over the years that you could move around and zoom in. There were some interesting signs telling you more about the history as you made your way round to the modern day exhibit that was to do with skateboarding.

It was my second visit already. The museum is interactive with different exhibitions. There are quite a lot hands-on activities. This place is very interesting for kids.
The visit is free of charge (donations are welcome).

This is a fun museum just off of Senate Square. It is super kid friendly. When I went, the top two floors were preparing for a new exhibit. The museum gives a good glimpse of life in Helsinki over the years. If you love old photos, on the first floor, they have a room full of photos that you can look through with some great detail.

First, this museum is connected to the children's museum to create a completely immersive trip down memory lane to the history of Helsinki. These are probably the most creative and unique museums in that you can actually explore and interact with the different rooms and time periods! The 1970's room got me as it was like going into my grandparent's house when I was younger, so there was some nostalgia vibes that almost made me tear up! Teaching my son about rotary phones and him playing with a vintage 70's vacuum was fun for us both and almost left me speechless! A great way to see the history, make it fun for kids, and made this big kid feel young again! Don't miss the cafe at the end with delicious cakes and snacks and coffee selections!

Located right at the foot of the grand cathedral, this small museum will help to orient you on Helsinki and its history. It is also a convenient place to fid a clean bathroom if you're in need.

An interesting museum, exhibitions are well designed, informative and highly interactive. Recommend the exhibition "Helsinki bites", where you can see how Helsinki looked like from 1800s hitherto. Some temporary exhibitions also worth a visit.

The museum is free of charge but very disappointing. Some of the exhibits didn't work, some were closed and none were that exciting in the first place. Helsinki, you can do so much better!

I am going to visit Helsinki City Museum with my luggage. May I know if the locker is free; or otherwise what's the charge? What's the dimension of the lockers? Is it big enough for hand-carry luggage to plane or even bigger?
Many thanks.

Best to leave your luggage at the train station - it’s done the stairs on the east side of the building
