    Herring Market
If you go to the Kauppatori (Outside Market) at this time of year you will find that it is The annual Herring Market. Always held during the first full week in October, the market has been happening just about every year since 1743. I decided to go and have a look this year as it is usually a wonderful atmosphere. Of course this year was slightly different because of the pandemic. Usually lots of little fishing boats are set out along the harbour, selling all flavours of spiced herrings. This year I counted only about 10 fishing boats all clustered at one end of the harbour and this year they did not allow customers to taste the herring before buying. But non the less the atmosphere was although less crowded, very much the same as in past years. The herrings are sold in little plastic tubs weighing about 250 grms, of which the fish content is about 150 grms. The price is usually this year about 8 euros (A bit expensive I think), although they do reductions if you buy 3 tubs, the cheapest I found was 5 euros per tub. They sell all kinds of flavours from garlic herrings to the usual "Glassmaker's herring" to Mustard, onion or dill herrings, I have seen Brandy herring and even coffee spiced herring in the past but this year the flavours seemed quite conservative. There is always a competition to find the best herring between the different sellers or the newest taste. Also you can find sweet Archipelago breads and other spiced preserves. The normal market is always worth a visit at any time of year, well except for winter when there can only be 2 or 3 tents set up in the coldest of weather. Now they were selling all kinds of Autumn products from Sea Blackthorn juice to apples and mushrooms. All in all a nice visit.

Helsinki's Market Square in the morning was very spacious, a couple joggers and tourists here and there. There was a lot of cafe tents and all of them were very quiet so you could be in peace. I recommend to visit the Market Square, if you don't mind the smell of sea and fish! The prices were quite high in one tent, but probably cheaper in some others.

We visited the Market Square in the morning before ten, when there was plenty of space in the cafes. The prices are quite high like you can expect. You can also find different kinds of crafts targeted for tourists etc. There’s also great ship connections to the Korkeasaari Zoo and Suomenlinna for example.

We found this place during our first trip to Helsinki. Our hotel was very close. It is the central place where you can feel the Helsinki vibes, the sea and the haven. It is also a nice place to have local food.

Great outdoor market on the waterfront, with lots of food vendors (mostly selling various seafood--and sides like veggies and potatoes), lots of fresh produce (everything looked delicious), and some souvenir stalls.

Definitely check it out--and try some of the delicious food!--if you're in Helsinki, at least in the summer.

A very lively place especially in the summer, where you can find a lot of Finnish local food and other products. There are also many local mini-cruise opportunities nearby, and you can also take a ferry directly to Suomenlinna from the market square.

Had an amazing time in Helsinski, Finland. Ate at the closed market - food is wonderful in Finland especially since I love seafood. I especially loved the Kauppatori market with all the homemade items. Bought some exceptional souvenirs there that were all handmade. Will be visiting again hopefully in the future.

A touristic market where you can go for local meals, buy some fresh fruit, or purchase some souvenir from Finland. As a tourist, this is exactly the place where you want to go.
Beware of seagulls stealing your food, though. Those birds are quite skillful in this.

We parked at the coach park directly next to the large wheel and walked the short distance to our Sun line cruise on our boat Emma.
When we returned, we had roughly 30 to 45 minutes to look around this busy area.
We particularly enjoyed the flea market picking up a few souvenirs before returning to the ship.
The market sold allsorts including some nice jewellery as well as nic nac bits and souvenirs.
Food was available further around.
Our cruise began from this area which we also thoroughly enjoyed.

I reached this attraction after walking from the Esplanade Park. Here are small restaurants selling unique Finnish dishes made of Moose and Deer meats, crepes, etc.

One can also ride the ferry going to the fort , ride the Sky Wheel, experience the Saunas and Flying Cinema Tour, visit the Uspenkin Cathedral, take pictures of the statues, ride the sightseeing boats, buy crafts and souvenirs, etc.

This open air flea market is located on the waters edge, close to the sky wheel.
Despite a cold nip in the April air the sun was shining and there was a good selection of both hot food pop up tents and more typical flea market clothing items for sale. More than we'd seen earlier in the week.
It was a nice atmosphere with many tucking into all sorts of local meat options at reasonable (for Helsinki!) prices. We stopped at 'Eromanga' for coffee, Finnish meat pies and cinnamon rolls served by two lovely ladies. Without realising at the time I think this is linked to one of the oldest bakeries in Helsinki?

I’d absolutely visit here again, there are so many stalls to treat yourself from. We grabbed lunch from one of the first ones on the left (when facing the big eye) and were pleasantly surprised, reindeer hot dogs are nice!!! The moose meatballs also went really well with the lingenberry jam. Lovely

This is a wonderful place for good food and reasonably priced souvenirs. We ate there several times and shopped for items several times. Watch out for seagulls - they will steal your food!
