Brilliant journey, entertainment was spot on! Especially the evening band. Great journey over to Helsinki. It was like being on a proper cruise.
I booked a cabin at a very reasonable price for what I received.
Good shopping too.
But the best ( apart from the band and singer) was having a sauna and jacuzzi in the spa ++++

Took late afternoon ferry to Stockholm with internal cabin and buffet dinner. Cabin las larger than expected with en suite and TV etc. WiFi was mixed. Very relaxing. Many people on a return cruise.. lots of activities all evening. Multiple restaurants sand cafes. Big duty free section. Sauna. Great views from upper deck on leaving Helsinki and coming through island channel into Stockholm. Both terminals were walking distance from city centre | central railway station. Viking also sail from. Turku.

We had a tax-free coupon from our previous journey. With that, one way journey from Stockholm to Helsinki was just 32 euros in an A-category window cabin. We also booked special breakfasts. So the total was 76 euros - 5 euros using my Viking points (boats).
The highlight of this trip was the sunset on departure from Stockholm. The special breakfast was as good as before.
The ship was quite full. Probably, there was also a holiday week in Swedish schools as in many Finnish schools. So we skipped the crowded nightclub. The sunset was the best entertainment for us.

The vessel XPRS is nice, a lot of places to sit and drink or eat. But the buffet we had been waiting for on the way back in the evening was a big disappointment. The food was ok but the restaurant was very noisy and restless and long queues and not too much time since they shut down the place already 1 hour before coming to port. Can not recommend.

I booked a round trip ferry from Helsinki to Tallinn on a Friday late in September to spend the day exploring Tallinn's old town. I downloaded the Viking app and I bought the tickets online. Great price, less than $20 round trip and cheaper than walk up prices. That was only for the passage, no cabin or other extras. You can book food options online as well, but there are plenty of options once you are on board.
The ferry left at 7:45AM. They suggested arriving two hours early, but it wasn't necessary. You could get there at 7 and have plenty of time. You check in at the Viking Line terminal. They check your passport and give you your boarding card which also serves as your return ticket. The ship started boarding about 7:15AM.
The ship departed on time and sailed through Helsinki harbor's archipelago. Some really good photo ops from the various sun decks or promenades.
On board ship there were several restaurant options - a self service deli which had a lot more than just a deli, a buffet restaurant and food available in the lounges as well. The ship has a small shopping area with all kinds of convenience items, liquor, snacks, etc. I needed a charging cable for my phone and they had numerous choices.
The weather was fine for autumn and I spent most of my time on deck. I went back inside to charge my phone and found a seat in the family area. There is a little playground that was full of kids having fun.
The ship arrived in Tallinn right on time at 10AM. Disembarking was simple. As soon as the ship was fully docked, the large doors let us out across the gangways and then down through the terminal to the town. No passport or other checks upon arrival. The terminal is a short walk to the old town, but there are plenty of busses and taxis waiting.
Upon return, I arrived about an hour early, and as with departure, I could have arrived at least 30 minutes later. The 5:30pm departure boarded about 5:00pm. No document checks, only had to show boarding cards to reboard.
On the return trip I visited the Viking bar and the lounge. Live music was playing in the lounge and the act was pretty good. Lots of people were dancing. I had a beer and some snacks, but then went back on deck to watch the sunset as we approached Helsinki harbor. Disembarking in Helsinki was about the same as in Tallinn. Just walk off the ship and into town.
Overall, it was a great deal for only $20USD. The ship was clean and well appointed. The sundeck areas had plenty of seating and there were lots of places to relax inside the ship.

Fairly new cruise ship. Well appointed and very clean. Could use more seating as you had to look for it. We found seats by duty free store to be very comfortable. They sail on time. Our total cost for three adults with 5 p.m. table smorgasbord was around $120 if you purchase on line a couple weeks before day of sale.
Their duty free store is better and cheaper than any European airport, so this is the place to load up as it will probably pay for your excursion. We loaded up on our favorite Fazer Chocolate.

We took a Viking Line day cruise from Helsinki to Tallinn and it was very convenient to walk to the port from where we stayed by the train station. The ship definitely leaves on time, so don't be late to the port! The buffet was very good and it was easy to buy tickets online too.

We used the Viking line to travel form Helsinki to Tallin. The ship is fantastic with a band and dancing in one of the main bars. We had the option for the buffet lunch which included alcohol. - excellent value at 13 euros.

I am traveling from Helsinki to Tallen one way. My partner and I will have some luggage with us, does it make sense to book a ticket with a room so we have a place to keep our luggage? Or are we just expected to roll around with it during the entire cruise Unless we book a room. Thanks!

I have purchased a knife as a souvenir. Will it be possible to check it in somehow and retrieve it at my final destination?

Guess it depends on the size and sharpness of your souvenir. I would recommend you call Viking Line and check with them. On an aircraft you can carry it in your checked-in luggage, which is not in your possession during the trip but on a ship its a different story. So call Viking Line (and incase they have any issue, offer to surrender the knife at the Reception in the ship, on check-in, and retrieve at de-boarding).......

There are a few seats in the corridors for viewing outside, but only a few.
Then of course there are loads of seats in the bars & restaurants but they want you to consume something! I suppose you could sleep there once the places close for the night.
But I don't know even if it is possible to book without a cabin, do a mock booking on the Viking site and see.
In any case if you choose the "Cruise" option the cabins are dirt cheap (the company makes its money by opening the Duty Free), last August I paid €52 for an economy cabin, that's two nights' accommodation for up to four people!
