So much more than your typical american library
We tour libraries when we travel. European libraries are staggering in size and what is available besides books. You can check out tools for free, there are recording studios and full kitchens available for patrons. It has five floors and cost 98 million euros to build. There is a cafe for your dining pleasure, too.

What a great place to keep teens busy
We found out about this place from our tour guide. I would of never thought to visit a library and I’m so glad that we did! This is not just a library but a great community center where everything is free and brand new! There are lots of board games including chess, you could play computer games or nentendo switch, there are books and movies in all different languages, there was even a meet up for Korean pop outside. The architecture is also very impressive, spacious and modern. Library is close to central train station

    Amazing Library
A library worth experiencing. Lots of things to do and useful services such as 3D printing and normal printing, the possibility of booking music rooms and computers, studios and game rooms and so on. Perhaps the most versatile and best organized library in Finland. The library has a great design and an open atmosphere. There is also a cafe The downside, however, is the noise level. The place has a children's playground, which sometimes makes a lot of noise and makes it difficult to concentrate on reading and thinking. Otherwise, a really good library and you will definitely find something that interests you.

    Kid-friendly
What a beautiful library! The layout, the atmosphere, the views... In addition to the wide selection of books, the cafe, and probably other stuff we didn't even see/know about, there's a great children's play area, with things to climb on, books to read (including in English), and more. This is just one more example of how family-friendly and kid-friendly Helsinki is. A great library in a great city!

    Don’t miss this library
The architecture is amazing but more amazing —all the services provided by this library. You can check out everything from musical instruments to season tickets to concerts. Within the library, you can use everything from 3-d printers to sewing machines. All free with a library card. There a cafe on the third floor and a rooftop seating and viewing area.

    Wow
What a great example of government money well spent! Our libraries are so plain compared to this architectural gem. It has an open floor plan with dedicated spaces for everyone. Loved the sewing machine area, the 3-D printing, the ability to borrow musical instruments, games, and, oh yes, books! Clean, well lit, and totally appealing as a place to get together, it’s a great example of a working library that actually works.

    More than just a library
Libraries are not just books, especially here. Borrow and play board games, practice your Tik Tok dance moves, gather your rock band for a jam session, have a bite & coffee..... This very popular library is a gem, certainly the best I've ever experienced.

Amazing example of what a community space can be.
This is a shining example of a successful civic building. Architecturally beautiful it holds spaces for all ages to explore books, record music, tinker, play video games, attend lectures or have a coffee. Check it out!

    Fantastic
Clean and very organized. Offers so much more than just books. A true place of service to the city. Sewing, video games, 3D printing, meeting rooms and so much more. Great architecture as well.

Incredible building - a must see
We came to see the architecture, we left wanting to move to Helsinki. The architecture is better than pictures can represent. It is a stunning building. A must see. But inside! Amazing. There are free labs where you can mend clothes, make 3D printed objects, relax and cozy up with a good book. It is community focused and so welcoming. The art work is incredible, too - they have an Ai Weiwei sculpture!

Only few minutes walk from central train station and city shopping centre this is an amazing looking wooden clad structure both inside and out. Not just a library (which is located all across the top floor a bit like being on a ships top deck) but a learning and relaxation space on the other floors including a nice cafe on the ground floor and coffee shop in library. No entrance free and set amongst lots of other art and culture new buildings set in a nice parkland where you can walk along to the shoreline. Apparently when it opened the smell of the fresh pine was wonderful. It also apparently won the title of best library in the world. Worth a visit.

Our host had booked a meeting room in the library, which is adjacent to the central railway station. The meeting rooms have an 82 " inch screen or Vetter. WiFi free of charge. Nice buffet in the canteen (EUR 11.50 for al full sized plate with soup). Upstairs there was a baby group of 20 mum's and 10 dad's.

A very different library, wonderful building, very busy. Lots of room to sit and enjoy. Caters for families with very young children, there was a lovely 3 piece band playing when we went, it wasnt intrusive and very relaxing. It is free to use.

A library? How on Earth can a library be a top attraction in a modern metropolitan city? If you have to ask, then you’ve never visited the Helsinki Public Library. This is the most thoughtfully designed public community space I’ve ever seen. It draws you in immediately and makes you feel welcome, no matter where you’re from, no matter what you are looking for. Start by taking the escalators to the top floor, walk upslope to get a full feeling of the inner spaciousness, then step outside on the balcony to read in the sun or just admire the view of the plaza and Music Centre. Walk down the spiral staircase to explore quiet spaces or visit the coffee shop on the ground floor. Honestly, if I lived in downtown Helsinki, I would spend all my spare time in this endlessly fascinating space.

We ended our walking tour taken with Ataman Tours at the Oodi Central Library.

Fascinating to find that you could borrow more than just books - planing a game of basketball then why not borrow a ball from the library; want to record your own private music label, you could probably do that here too since they have a number of recording studios.

Great place just to "hang out" if you wish. You will find lots of space and seating and if you are feeling hungry a restaurant and café.

The sleek silhoutte of wood and glass makes the new Central library an acclaimed center among the other prestigious buildings. It has remained popular among locals offering all kinds of spaces and workshops besides literature. The most streamlined floor is the highest with a terrace overlooking the Parliament and Finlandia Hall.

I admire the building itself, too, but I can’t imagine a library with such a multi funcions! It’s a must-see attraction in Helsinki. We went to the top by lift and visited everything from the balcony to the workshop area and reading corners or game-rooms. It’s really a place where families, young or older people can spend their spare time.

A thousand times WOW! This is the coolest library! A friend who was with us went multiple times because he thought it was so great! We only went once but if I had more time in Helsinki I would be at that library often.

People can check out musical instruments, sewing machines, use 3D printers and more! The children's area is out of this world amazing - I'd love to take my grandkids there.

It is visually stunning and totally captivating - Helsinki should be very proud of this beautiful structure for all people!

Make sure you add this to your MUST-SEE list!

Oodi Central Library offers not only books and plenty of seating for comfortable reading, but also sewing machines, 3d printers, computer and game rooms, chess tables and much more. The modern architecture gives it a bright and airy indoor environment, while still managing to keep noise down, thanks to the wave-shape of the ceiling.
Highly recommended on a Sunday afternoon where not much else is open in Helsinki.

Fantastic library both inside and outside. The inside is made up of several separates floors with different things to do in each floor. For example one floor has a lot of rooms for gaming, studios for making your own music, and 3D-printing. The top floor is very open, quiet and nice for studying or reading quietly with a nice cup of coffee. Both the interior and the exterior design is really worth seeing
