Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A winding main staircase, a rotunda with columns and a loft for newspapers are the architectural elements giving the red brick building from 1912 its character. The first publicly funded library in Helsinki was designed by Karl Hård af Segerstad. The array of things you can loan nowadays is ever expanding, there is even a carrier bike by the main entrance.

The Kallio Library is a branch of the Helsinki City Library. It is located next to the Bear Park in the Kallio district.
This red brick building from 1912 is the fourth oldest library building in Finland.
The Art Nouveau interior is very striking and very different from what you could expect from outside.

This hundred-year old public library has a simply astonishing interior in the famous Jugend style so praised in other Helsinki neighborhoods. The staircases are spectacular. Even the newelposts are remarkable. The 1, 1A, 3, and 9 trams all stop a short block away from the library.

The hundred years old house occupying its own lot with a rocky garden in the back yard is worth a visit for the well restored, elegantly old fashioned interior. Designed in 1912 by Karl Hård af Segersted it was the first communally built library in the country yet at the moment under Russian rule. There is a reading gallery with magazines and newspapers, the book selection includes also titles in English. Literacy has allways been highly appreciated in Finland, the importance of an own language was essential for independence as we had been ruled by the Swedes and Russians.

Kallio kirjasto which used to be a school i took someone to from work. On the same 5th line seems to be Bear park and the fire station. I stopped by to eat something after going swimming. Nice place.

I coincidentally visited this library two day before it got closed until next February. I can’t wait to visit the library again once it is open after remodeling of the first floor. This a brilliant place to read newspapers, magazines, books, or just to relax. Multi-store building with different themes at each floor. There is a section for children as well.

Kallio neigbourhood was working class in 1912 when the library first opened and it had a great educational value as literacy in Finland has allways been high in all social classes. The red brick Art Nouveau building with a Classical touch has three floors and a mezzanine to read newspapers in peace. Downstairs is another reading area for magazines which overlooks the back garden. The architectual layout is called butterfly as the different departments open around the center as wings and it was copied from American libraries by the designer Karl Hård af Segerstad. A change of generations has taken place in this part of inner city and the local library can offer from its smaller collection also childrens books, fantasy and music to lend and all the normal online services for any Helsinki City Library card holder.
