Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Made a trip advisor account just to rate this spot. Regulars are very accommodating, a must visit for anyone who wishes to have a genuine sauna like the locals

Sompasauna has seen a lot. Community based public sauna started very small in Sompasaari. Since then the sauna has grown and has been known to more people. Also the location has changed in 2021. Obviously the people running it mainly also have changed as you can notice the ever growing rigid set of rules you have to be aware of.

Make sure to take part of chopping wood and bringing water for the saunas to ensure everyone is having a good time.

You can enjoy live music or swim in the sea naked or not. It's very common in Sompasauna to be meeting new people from all around the world and Finland.

Well worth a visit, was less than €10 in an Uber from our hotel. Unreal at sunrise. Nobody there when we got there at 9am on a Sunday morning. Seems it gets busier later. Thankfully one of the volunteers came and started stoking the sauna fires as he said he normally does around that time. A mix of clothed and non clothed people dipping. Very relaxed...a highlight of our visit to Helsinki.

Amazing sauna experience! Well off the tourist trail, I found it as it was mentioned by my hostel. Very rustic, but so authentic, far better than the expensive tourist saunas.

It was dark, lit only by fairy lights and the moonlight, and with someone playing a guitar the atmosphere was lovely. Clothed or naked, no-one minded. In November, the dip in the sea after was so cold!

I visit Helsinki usually many times a year from my home city Tampere. It's convenient to take R-Train and have my bike with me. When I get off the train in Pasila, it's only about 15 minutes ride to Sompasauna. Having sauna in relaxed atmosphere chatting with regulars gives me time to pause and get my head right before rushing in the busy streets of Capital City. Highly recommended to anyone who respects healthy lifestyle and excellent sauna experience with winter swimming access aka Nordic plunge in winter time. Take your own drinking water with you.

Get the Finnish sauna experience for free any time of the day. You can be naked or not. It's possible to swim in the see. What's not to like?

There’s a sense of community like no other that I always go back for in Sompasauna. We might seem a little shy on the outside as Finns, but here’s one place in Finland where people will start up a conversation as if they’ve met you before.. +Do bring sandals in winter, and Do bring a cold drink with you in Summer

You can be naked, but dont have to.
Men and women together with no harrasment, just respect!
You swim in the sea.
Just real saunas, no electric ones.
Bohemic but very friendly and couzy athmosfhere. Recommend if you like to try something very different and take part of finnish culture.

Its a very good experience. Visited around 9 PM, there are two sauna rooms and you can go rotate within them and in between also take a dip in the sea.

Kudos to the community who are managing it for free. Majority will be all Finish folks but there were few internationals as well.

Great experience to travel something unique and local!
