Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Are you a nature enthusiasts?
Hiking along Kaitalampi Lake with its serene lakeshore and stunning scenery is a must-experience forest trail.
Keep to the marked hiking route on the map as the mobile network practically doesn’t exist Incase of emergency in dense wilderness .
It was an amazing experience near this peaceful, mirror-like lakes.

It may be a little off the beaten track, but if you're coming to Finland for the first time and fancy getting out of the city and seeing what makes a finn tick then pleeeeease make the effort to go and see Kaitalampi. You won't be disappointed. To me this is one of the most beautiful spots on the earth. I can, and have on many occasions whiled away hours just sitting by the lake contemplating my navel, breathing in the clean country air, grilling sausages and swimming in the clear fresh water. Take the 345 or 346 bus from Helsinki city centre and in less than an hour you will be transported from urban bedlam to country idyll. It is the perfect place for families, You can take a picnic or grill your own food on one of the three big public barbecues here, do a spot of fishing or if you are an energetic type, take a hike around the totally unspoiled forest. If you're coming in the late summer or autumn then the berry picking and mushrooming opportunities are endless. Everything grows here in abundance from blueberries to raspberries to forest strawberries. It is quite possible to take a walk around the forest and come back stuffed to the gills for free! This is not a tourist hotspot at all, so very few people who come to Finland even know it exists but it is a favourite place among finns. It's very hard to describe in words what makes this place so great and I can only upload one photo as all of mine are too big! But if you do one thing on your holiday in Finland, make it a trip to Kaitalampi for a taste of the REAL Finland.

Kaltalampi lake is one of the premier open water swimming lakes in Espoo. It has a pontoon with steps for easy access into the water. It has changing rooms. It has bike racks. It has a fire/BBQ grill with a shelter AND Free firewood. It has easy access from the 110, car parking is available and is on a bus route from Helsinki.
The actual swimming is good - there are bright Florissant buoys which mark different distances down the lake. It is 1-km to the end of the lake from the first pontoon.
This venue is not suitable for non swimmers or children - there is no beach and the rocks are very slippery, the best access into the water is from the pontoon which puts you straight into deep water. There are no swims or children play area.
There is a Kiltalampi Facebook page called - KAITALAMPI OPEN WATER'. On this page the water temperature is regularly displayed as are the races and events that take place there.
There is an annual 10k swimming race at Kaltalampi.

This lake is worth to visit, natures beauty in one packet.
There is place you can grill and don't forget to swim. This place is so near from the Helsinki city center that it takes less than a hour to get there by bus.

Nice water, many piers where you can jump in. Easy access, but no beaches so not very good for small kids.

Great place with beautiful scenery. Public BBQ spots, great tracks for hiking and jogging. Only 30 minutes from Helsinki down town, but feels like you were in a middle of complete, unspoilt wilderness.

Water is clean. It really invites you to swim!
There are many fireplaces around lake.
Place is easy to find because it's just beside the road.
(But the map of tripadvisor shows a wrong place, it's 1,7 kilometers to east)

Kaitalampi is a place, where I go to relax after a stressful week at work. The scenery is absolutely beautiful and you can feel the nature around it. I have been going there several times a year for more than 10 times and each time I am amazed by the beauty of the lake and forest. You can also arrange a picnic and a grill your own food there. The logs are provided for the grill, you only need to bring the food. There is also a possibility to swim, there are very basic & simple changing rooms and toilets available.

I feel that I should not do this, but I do. I will give you a wonderful, secret place to visit. Part of the charm is the fact that not too many people know this place and visit it. Lovely, beautiful, typically finnish lace with possibility to swim and do some fishing.
Helps your soul to survive.

If you are a nature lover and you are visiting Helsinki during the summer this is a must! The lake is beautiful and nature itself is stunning. You can spend the whole day there and do some grilling, swimming in the lake, walking through the forest. You can take the bus from city center, it goes every 60 min.

We are staying in Espoo in August and are trying to find places to visit. We prefer to see villages and local life rather than cities and museums.
Would appreciate any information on interesting villages, fishing harbours or any country living.

Hi kedgeKent
Nice to hear that you are going to visit my home town, welcome! August is a good month to have a nice time here.
Kintus P listed actually nearly all places near by which are the most popular and worth of visit. It would help us to recommend places if we know what kind of transportation choices you have in your use while visiting and how many days you have chance to be here. Espoo is not the best place for public bus crossconnections inside Espoo and the trains are moving only south area with one main lane. But it is very useful between Helsinki-Espoo-Kirkkonummi area. (east-west direction, change trains at Pasila station if you want reach Vantaa area) If you have a car on your use things are much more better to reach. Also the information of which part of Espoo you are going to stay could be useful in order to give tip where to go locally.
One site which you could be interested of is nationalparks dot fi and choose destinaton leaflet. (national board of forestry pages).
Probably you know this already but in case not, check out visitespoo dot fi/en this is the official site of Espoo city, you will find many useful tips from there.
You did not tell are you coming at the beginning or the end of august. This has a small meaning which you may value. Espoo archipelago waterbuses are on line every day (except mondays) just until 14.8. after that they drive on weekends to outdoor islands.
Summer holiday season for families practically ends at 16.8. because schools are starting. This has an effect to traffic and people amount using services near by when they are "warming up" home again after returning from their summer cottages =D.
For fishing look at the possibilities of Porkkala area.
