Breathtaking (sometimes literally)
Sep 2020
Breathtakingly beautiful hike in autumn! Did 82+ km hike with my friends in late September - colourful sceneries, varied landscape , friendly people. Very well marked trail, suitable for beginners yet not too easy. The hardest terrain is from Porontimajoki to Ruka (which was the last leg in our case) but it's also the most beautiful if it's happen to be good weather.
The trail isn't too wild and meets number of smaller trails so you'll probably meet any kind of hikers on your way.
Take a tent or a tarp with you 'cause the huts may be full.
We would like more campfire sites, especially crowded was the last night in Porontimajoki. It's nice to have a fire on a wet chilly night.
But we are all very happy with this experience.

An amazing nature trail which was challenging at times
Jul 2019 • Couples
I did this 82km trek across 4 days (including a rest day in the middle). We are reasonably fit and were able to do it, although were challenged. This was particularly on the last day to Ruka in which there is a lot of climbing and descending, as well as plenty of mud.

Overall, this is a truly amazing walk. It really takes you through the highlights of Oulanka national park. We wished we had more days to do it in though - the campsites are all in spectacular locations and I wish i had been able to stay at them all. Huts were basic but well equiped and toilets were frequent along the trail (at least by Australian standards).

A few tips: Try and get a map in advance. The visitor centre in Oulanka didn't open until 10am which was just too late for us when we had a 31km day ahead so we had to do without a map (not a huge issue given how well marked the trail was, but made it hard to know exactly how far we had to go etc). We found it hard at times to get clear information which was in English in general and would have really benefited from having the chance to speak with someone who knew the track well.

Consider doing it with Basecamp Oulanka - they have two stops you can stay in with food and accommodation - means not carrying a tent which is always a nice luxury.

Overall, a really awesome experience.

Beautiful hike, pure nature
Jul 2019 • Family
I did the 82 km hike with my family (including my 64 years old mom), it took us 4 days, but I need to say that the last 20 km (to Ruka) was not that easy. The view is beautiful, wonderful wild nature, not too many hikers on the way (but some of the huts were quite crowded), well marked trail and many amenities. We really enjoyed it, despite of the rain and mosquitos.

An unforgettable trek.
Sep 2018
One of the most beautiful places i´ve ever benn in my life. Karhunkierros is very prepared for receiving trekkers, with a bunch of places for staying overnight and tipis for daytime rest, the track is very well marked and is not that difficult. We´ve made almost eighty kilometres in five days. I highly recommend this adventure for trekking lovers who want to enjoy pure nature, wild animals and breathtaking sight-viewings. For sure i´ll come back one day..

Great hiking trail
Jul 2018 • Family
All in all 82 km or 72 km. 4 days hike if you're fit, 2 days if super-super-fit. Also shorter day trails if the hard-core version isn't your stuff. Beautiful scenery.

Another interesting trail in Oulanka
Jun 2018 • Couples
The Karhunkieros Keino trail leads over the forestal hills along the river side deep beneath us. The trail leads over the Karhunkierros hanging bridge and a little further shows the imposing waterfall after the red granite canyon. In one word a splendid trail. 5/5

Beautifull place with very nice views.
Mar 2018 • Couples
We went there this week and walked the 12 km trail. The views were beautifull, with nice hanging bridges. The trails, especially the stairs, were very slippery and sometimes even scary in my opinion. But that's also a good challenge.

Big enough Karhunkierros
Sep 2016 • Family
There are two leghts for Karhun kierros. We did the smaller and it is a nice day trip. The longer one is something quite different. Karhunkierros offers nice views and endless stairs up and down so this serves also as an excercise.

Pieni karhunkierros / Small Bear Round (12 km)
Sep 2016 • Friends
This is why we came to Kuusamo, to have this famous day-hike of 12 km in the beautiful nature with wonderful sceneries. It was a tough hike with all the stairs for me, a well overweight person. But it was actually not as tough as I expected; I could have walked more. And I've managed harder hikes. We took the round from Myllykoski across the bridge to avoid going up the longest stairs. We had two longer breaks, at Harrisuvanto and at Siilastupa. Siilastupa was a great place to admire Jyrävä, probably the most beautiful waterfalls in Finland.
This hiking trail is easy to follow and it offers some spectacular views of Finnish nature. Apart from the stairs, it's rather easy to walk, and it's a quite popular trail. Take your time on this hike and bring your own toilet paper with you.
About the bus connection, there is some but none on the day we were there. I recommend taking a taxi to Basecamp early enough to have lots of time for the hike and to avoid the biggest crowds. We ordered taxi to pick us up when we reached Myllykoski, but you could also have a coffee at Basecamp while you wait for your taxi.

The iconic hiking trail
Sep 2016 • Couples
One of the most famous hiking trail in finland and not without a reason. The trail has also been noticed abroad and was said it was one of the best trail in western europe. The scenery is amazing and you could just feel the purity of the air. You could see lots of reindeers and walk with them. I will definately go again!
