5km Reindeer experience and visiting the farm
We arrived at the farm (4 adults and 4 children age 8, 6, 6 and 3) just as the sun was setting. Mika greeted us and explained what he had planned for us. First we rode the reindeer. We all had a fabulous time, the kids thoughrouly enjoyed it. Then we spent some time feeding the baby reindeers, fabulous experience. Mika then lit the barbecue where we gathered around the fire to learn more about the history of the farm and the local culture. Mika was very knowledgeable and patient with the kids, specially with the 3 yrs old, who was always asking "why?" We visited the farm shop, where all products were produced locally by their family, and we got our reindeer driving licence. We all had a great time and would definitely recommend the experience!

A must visit on your trip to Kuusamo
I am very greatful for having the chance to meet your lovely family, thank you for being so kind and welcoming. I enjoyed getting to know more about reeinders and your lifestyle. It is admiring to see how you strive to keep the family business over generations, really wish you a long successful life ahead. I take back some positive energy from Satu :) I am sure one day this connection will bring me back here. Big thank you to you all. Adriana

    Very interesting an informative
Visited with a ground had a short ride plus some time with the baby reindeer which we were allowed to hand feed. Afterwards we went to a square hut with an open fire for a drink and snack in the form of reindeer sausage and homemade biscuits. Really nice old fashioned gift shop. Lovely visit for about 2 hrs

The fishing day with Mika greatly exceeded our expectations. You can feel the passion of the staff for the activities they organise. Also, great conversations around a fire and delicious snacks about life in Finland. Many thx

We visited Palosaari Farm (2 adults, 2 children) on February 2021. We had excellent experience and kids loved the place. Mika was really good host and we learned a lot of reindeers and how they live.

We had a very good time with Mika the owner of the farm. We fed the reindeer and he told us all about them. Then he showed us his old house explaining how they used to live in the past.
Mika was very nice and interesting.

We visited the Palosaari Reindeer and Fishing Farm to see some reindeer's. The current owner of the farm greeted us and took us to see the reindeer's. There were four domesticated ones whom we were able to feed and pet; it was fun. The owner told us about the reindeer's and why they aren't among the others in the forest. We were offered juice and campfire coffee and some home made biscuits in a goahti. The campfire coffee always tastes so good. We were told more about reinseer's and reindeer herding as a profession. The visit to the Palosaari Reindeer and Fishing Farm was very educating.
There is a small shop from where one can buy some herb and reindeer products.

Visited the farm as our first stop during a weekend to Ruka. Mika met us in the arrivals lounge at the airport and then drove us to the farm. Spent a couple of hours riding reindeer sleds, feeding reindeer and learning about reindeers and reindeer farming followed by time in a traditional reindeer farmers house drinking hot drinks and eating cookies and sausages. Received our reindeer driving licences and then Mika took us onward to our hotel in Ruka.
Mika is an excellent guide - he is really friendly & knowledgeable about the reindeers and patiently answered questions from the kids (where is Rudolph etc.)

We booked directly and it was significantly better value than going via one of the tour operators - we had a private visit for the same price as group trips to other farms!

First time in our lives we've seen reindeers and this has definitively been a great experience. To be honest I was quite sceptical at first, I usually tend not to like it so much when animals are used for "entertainment". But this place is really just perfect! The 2 owners a 2 passionates that live, breathe and love reindeers more than anything else and you can feel it from the first seconds you get there.
The story behind the reindeers and herding is really fascinating as well! I had no idea that these animals were actually living "in the wild" for most of the year and would only come to this farm in wintertime in order to get enough food.
It has been a great day and we've leart a lot! Thanks a lot!
