Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.

This is the third time I've attended ski school, I love it every time! Ella was my very first instructor who was brilliant and gave me so much confidence. This time I attended the ski school on my own and met the most amazing people from my group! Our instructor Sean was the best! He really supported everyone's individual needs and made us feel confident! He was super patient with us and also very funny!! We managed to make it down some reds by the end of the week with the encouragement from Sean! I can't recommend the ski school enough! Thanks for the best week!

We visited Ruka for a ski holiday and only my 15 year old had skied before. We were all put in to appropriate lessons for our age and skill and received 5 days of lessons (5x 1.75h sessions). Our instructor Teemu was brilliant. He was friendly, kind and funny and made sure he gave everyone the individual help they needed /catered to each persons speed of learning.
My 11 year old daughter had Henna (she thinks that’s how you spell it lol) and she did amazingly! With just the week of lessons she went from total beginner to sling from the very top!
All the Crystal ski staff were fantastic and went above and beyond for us from rearranging more appropriate pick up points for trips to arranging us to be dropped of the transfer coach first, looking after our cases and running us straight to the supermarket as they were closing in 20 minutes and knew were were self catering and then arranging a taxi for the remainder of our transfer.

As a family we came to Ruka Ski Resort and was my husband and my children’s first skiing experience, myself & my hubby had Matthew as our ski instructor who was just brilliant, informative, patient and professional and kept us well informed of the rules of the slopes, we were so impressed! My 15 year old son had a lady snowboard instructor and having never snowboarded before by day 4 of lessons he was comfortably going down the black runs, phenomenal and my 7 year old was skiing beautifully by day 3/4 and coming on the blue runs with us, we are so very impressed, extremely friendly and personable staff honestly can’t recommend enough! The instructors here really care and want you to succeed and thus shows.

My wife and two kids had 3 x 1.5 hour private sessions with an instructor over the first two days of our recent ski holiday. From being absolute beginners they were able to negotiate blue runs at the end of the second day. Really good level of instruction from the staff here so would recommend.
Quick tip - worth booking before you travel as the queues to organise are quite lengthy upon arrival. Meet point is in Ruka Valley so if you are staying in Ruka Village you will need to get Gondola/bus across for your lesson.

I booked Ruka ski school through Crystal ski and couldn’t reccomend them highly enough. I had 5 days of 1 hour 45 min group lessons and was very impressed. The group sizes were small and separated by level of experience. I was lucky enough to have Ella as my instructor and she was fantastic; quality tuition, tailored to suit, provided structure to the day and was great fun. Can’t wait to return!

We used Ruka Ski School which was booked through our Crystal Ski holiday.
I was moved groups on day 2 as my group were more advanced with their skiing than I was.
I would like to thank my instructor Tom who was amazing and very understanding. His teaching methods helped me with my confidence and got me skiing on my own.
Thanks again, Ruka is a good place to learn to ski.

We booked a 1hr 50 min lesson for a family of four. The young instructors was amazing balancing kids with adults. He made sure we had mastered what we needed before moving us on. After nearly two hours we were all skiing for you can't ask for more than that.

Ski tutoring on the whole in Ruka is 1st class. All 7 of us have improved our skills, some from nothing to skiing blue runs and some from blues onto steep reds. Our teens have done us proud and learnt all the basics needed to guide themselves down the slopes really well. Fantastic pistes to learn on, powder is great and not toy busy. On the hole very good for beginners.

My husband and I plus our 3 children were in snowboard and ski school for 5 days during half term.
Our children all like their instructors and developed hugely during week. The older two were doing black runs by day 3 and our 6 year old, who hated skiing last year now loves it thanks to her 'kind' teacher- her name began with 'O' but she can't remember her full name!
Fortunately my husband & I were placed together in a class with Janne and i just about kept up with the teens in our class! Although there were about 10 of us we felt than Janne pushed us all out of comfort zone ( introducing us to moguls, half pipe and jumps, a 1st for this 42 yr old!). He also gave us individual feedback and mixed in technique pointers as well as new types of terrain. Confidence has improved hugely and just wish we had more time to practise what we learnt!

Can you book into the 3 day course then extend to 5 days at the time if wanted? We're going as complete beginners but also doing a lot of other activities so not sure if the 5 days would be too much?
Written 5 August 2019
Hello!
Of course you may extend it, with additional lessons.
Our English Group courses are ½-day courses, so you will any way have a nice to time take part to excursion at the same day, and get relaxed too.. And of course we hope that you'll enjoy this new hobbie on snow so much, that you'd like to book additional lessons too to become every day more condfident skier. Welcome to Ruka and Ski School!

hi, we are group of 6 adults and children of mixed abilities and are planning on booking into this ski school, did your groups lessons all start at the same time? I don't want to book if all of our lessons are at various times of the day as we had other activities planned.
TIA

Hi there, I'm interested in learning cross-country skiing and wondered if there was a beginners package available?
Written 26 October 2015
Hi, we were looking at coming to Ruka in December but with temperatures around -20 and lower how does ski school cope with children getting too cold and miserable when they are first time learners? We have 3 aged 7, 8 and 10. Currently we have decided not to go but if there is positive answers we may reconsider
Many thanks
Sam

My son is 10 and has been skiing in Finland for several years. The cold is different to the UK as it is a dry cold rather than damp. Make sure you all have thermals and layers as well as goggles and a snood / face mask and you should be fine. A pair of under gloves as well also helps the hands keep warm. We went on a husky ride last week and it was -32C but a it feels a lot colder now I am back in the UK!! The ski school are good at looking after the children and if you are beginners, the slope is near a cafe so you can stop and warm up. Even on the slopes, the instructor will stop for a hot chocolate break if the children want to so they do not get too cold. Hope this helps and that you enjoy your holiday as we did.
