We went on the lake cruise with our son (9). We contacted Ollis in advance as it looked like the cruise was full but he managed to find space for us. We were able to go down and see the steam engine at work and also bought some local sweet treats - very nice! Was lovely sitting out on deck. It was a little chilly but blankets are provided to keep you warm. All in all a lovely relaxing trip.

Slow life on the lake. Cruise was 2,5 hours. First half captain tells about history on shore and water. Last half was silent, only steam engine voice. You can go to see engine if you ask.

I have been all my life in Kajaani but never before really seen "city" at lower river.

There are not much to see. Areas around old paper mills was interesting to me. Besides that you can see how finnish people lives around river. You can expect lot of saunas (maybe some naked people on docks, too), small fishing boats and a forests around river.

Weather was nice (didn't snow at all) so it was really chilling experience to cruise slowly with old steam boat. There are cafeteria in boat and with rights to serve alcohol as well.

This is a
Must do experience - the only way to really experience the beauty of the huge lake Oulujärvi and the absolute charm of ex working steam boat
The sights, sound and smells make this voyage a MUST DO for tourists and it's good value too!

Easy access to the boat from Kajaani centre, just a short walk.
Friendly and nice service on the boat and a possibility to see a really old steam engine running.
You can see and explore the big lake Oulujärvi from this ship.
I liked the silent engine just moving the boat near the wonderful nature of the lake on a summer evening.

I took a cruise on the steam boat Kouta from Kajaani to island called Ärjä. The boat is really old and fascinating, the lake view is beautiful and the island is a paradise. I couldn't imagine that kind of natural sand beaches to exist here.

We had a salmon soup, coffee, pie and beer on the boat. The boat cruise took 2 hours one way. At the island we had a nice walk, went to swimming and bought donuts at the summer cafe.

Lovely activity for a day off!

I had my birthday on board with my relatives. I'm originally from Kajaani and wanted something nice for my birthday when visiting there on my birthday. I think this is the nicest thing you can do there, actually :)
