As a first time skier, this was the perfect place for me to learn! The instructors are so kind and patient. The varied slopes were good for us as my partner is a very confident skier whereas the blue slopes were more than enough for me haha the food is lovely buy can get a little boring as it's mostly chips, burgers and pizzas. it's very expensive. a small (and I mean small) glass of wine was €11. the coach stops at a generous supermarket on the way to the resort. the two of us ate out for lunch and tea every day and spent about €700 on both food and drink for 7 days. we done the snow dogs reindeer and ski mobile excursions. for the two of us altogether those cost €600. we saw the northern lights when at the highest point on the ski mobiles and it was incredible driving through just the thick white snow! looked like something out of a cartoon. Best part was we got engaged out there 😊 we would definitely go back and have recommended it to others even if you don't want to ski.

Me and my mum have just had a weeks ski holiday to salla Finland in the kelorinne log cabins, this place is something else, salla is quiet, it's great for beginners and intermediates, not much in the way of advance slopes (black runs) but there are plenty of activities for non skiers though. The cabins themselves are incredibly well catered for, log fire and fire wood.. longer the fire going I recommend stripping the bark off the logs. They supply matches. Fridge freezer, dishwasher, oven grill 4 oven rings, hot plate, clothes drying thing, sauna. Cabins would comfortably fit 4 in. Says 4 To 6 but 6 would be cramped. DVD player, radio, underfloor heating. It's a quiet resort, has 3 restaurant near by and all lovely, a very small shop with basic stuff at the hotel that has a spa, they provide a few cleaning products and a hair dryer for those that need it. Cabins are warm and cosy.. not far from the slopes. If you travel with crystal ski harry is the resort rep and is fantastic, if you do the ski school vlad and liisa are fantastic also. Everyone is friendly. If you've come self catering, they stop off at a massive tesco like supermarket for you to get your weeks shopping. You get 30 mins. They have washing up liquid and your stuff for dishwasher already. The slopes themselves are great for skiing. And it's a beautiful country.. the water is the purest in the world and lovely to drink. Top tip dress with layers. In all I cant wait to come back.

Great place to chillout! Good selection of outdoor activities without hustle and bustle!

Currently I’m still in resort at time of review. Purely from a skiing perspective I’m sure this is a great to learn to ski. Nothing challenging or scary at all. We came here as good intermediate skiers. With only 10Km of skiing we understood from the start that it was only a small area. We came for other activities in mind and from looking at the ski area we thought there would be enough skiing on the side. However, three days in and only half of the mountain is open. Loads of snow so that isn’t a problem. No wind, so again, that can’t be the problem. Apparently the answer is that it is low season...at the beginning of February!!. When you pay over £160 for a pass, unless there is a very good reason to shut half the mountain you expect it all to be open. We have loved it here so far but for reasons other than the skiing. Come Salla Ski resort, this is not good enough. Paying customer should either be warned about this or there should be a reduced lift pass to reflect the available skiing.

This one hell of the place to visit. Our house is placed in between two slopes which u can use without any queues to get to the top. Down hills are not too long but pleasant. Few coffee shops around to get hot drink and relax after time in a snow. Easy reachable via car, roads kept reasonable clear. There is a place to go with your sledge too or a ski school for those making first steps into winter madness. Also very quiet, you wont find crowds here. We are here with two kids and cant fault anything.

Week in Salla, Revontuli hotel, 2 adults, and a 6 yr old. Wonderful. Do bring thermals, and if ski-ing balaclava, extra gloves under ski gloves, and thin socks under thik socks. No queues for lifts, no queues in ski hire shop. no-one else in ski school (private lessons!). , no roads, no noise, no noisy drunk Brits! husky trip breathtaking, toboggan fun. Pool was great - would be expensive if you weren't staying in hotel. We would defnitely go again and recommend, as long as you can do without drinking much (£6 half pint lager, £30 bottle wine). Would not self cater here - no shop!

We have just returned from the most magical family holiday with Crystal Ski at Salla in Finland. I had really high hopes and they were exceeded every step of the way. We were 2 adults and 2 children (7 and 8 years) and our package included flights from Manchester to Kussamo, transfers, staying in a Salla Cabin (type E) and trips on Reindeer and husky safaris, snowmobiles and a visit to santa's cottage. It's hard to adequately describe a holiday that is extremely peaceful, whilst also being hugely exciting and adventurous at the same time! The cabin was exactly what we needed, cosy with a sauna and excellent drying cupboard for clothes. The Trips were truly magical, I was actually moved to tears on occasions, speeding through the beautiful Lappish countryside on a sled with huskies or reindeer pulling you along is breath taking.
A huge bonus was also the skiing, my family had never skied before and I didn't really think we'd bother with it much, but the ski school was fantastic with excellent local instructors, the equipment brand new and so comfortable, no queues for the lifts and with the slopes only 5 mins walk (or sledge) from our front door it seemed mad not to. There was hardly anyone else on the slopes - especially up on the black run at the top. I think for beginners it would be hard to beat this place, and there is plenty to keep keen skiers happy for a good 3/4 days.
We were really lucky that it was pretty warm whilst we were there with the temperature not going below -10 (that is quite unusual for mid/late December), so a set of thermals with a fleece layer and ski jacket over the top was more than sufficient, but it would have been difficult on a couple of the expeditions had it been really really cold, so think hard about taking really young children - I would say 6 years old is as young as I would have wanted to take mine. We had mainly cloudy conditions which meant it stayed warm but no Northern Lights - so we have the perfect excuse to go back - which we will most certainly be doing!
Jess and Georgi, the reps are really friendly and helpful, there when you needed them - swapping a couple of trips for us as we wanted to do the daytime reindeer safari rather than the night time one - but not when you didn't, so it never felt like you were being herded around in a big group.
There are a couple of restaurants and a lovely little cabin cafe next to the slopes where food and drink was the kind of price you'd expect in the UK - lovely local beers and in the a la carte restaurants you can expect some really delicious dishes.
Having really looked into Lapland holidays I truly believe Crystal's packages can't be beaten on price. But just to be clear, these are not the "Santa" themed packages you can book for twice the price and half the time, there aren't elves around every corner and there isn't a huge build up to meeting santa (although the trip to his cottage is wonderful) it's a really authentic Lappish holiday, where you will get to spend time with the locals, sample the local winter sports and just enjoy the peace and tranquility of one of the most beautiful winter wonderlands I have ever visited.

My friend and I have recently returned from the most amazing holiday at Salla Ski Resort. We travelled with Crystal Ski holidays from Manchester.
The Ski Resort is made up of cabins across both sides of the road, if you like to ski and the great outdoors this is the perfect place to visit. Although the -28 temperature may put some people off. Do not be detered.
It was out of season when we visited, so the slopes were nice and quiet. Ideal for a beginner like myself. But apparently also very nice for an accomplished skier like my friend.
The Ski Equipment shop staff were very helpful in getting us kitted out with our gear. We even tried cross country skiing during the course of our time there for a change.
There are several cafes around the Resort, ideal for popping into for a break. A bar and restaurant in the on site Hotel and also a bar across the road at Sallauntri Turvat.
Upon leaving the Airport our transfer coach stopped for an hour at a large supermarket so we could stock up. Please be aware there is a small convenience shop is within the Hotel for basic items such as bread and milk , but other than this there is no Supermarket within the resort.
The cabins on site are well kitted out, Cooking facilities include a microwave and a double electric hob. Please note NO OVEN. We were aware of this before we arrived but a few people had not read the reviews and had bought pizzas and part cooked bread rolls. A sauna , log fire, drying room, shower. Just perfect for a getaway from it all week.
Enjoy hiking in the snow . snow mobiles, Husky sleigh rides, Reindeer Sleigh rides. Snow Shoe hikes . and much more.
Just make sure you accept the offer of all in one snowsuits to go over your jacket and a blanket.
And a PLUS PLUS the Northern Lights are often seen.
The most amazing holiday ever. we'd go back tomorrow we can't praise the staff and resort enough.

Salla is a very quiet resort, only one pub which closes at ten. This didn't stop our sons (19 & 22) finding a late party. The log restaurant is great for lunch only €10 for a buffet which in Finland is great value. There isn't a supermarket but there is one in salla village about 15mins away. The runs are wide blues, reds and blacks, there is only button/t-bar lifts and some are quiet long but the views are amazing. It's very quiet so no queues and on the trickier runs when people are in ski school it's just bliss. The fire huts are great take your own sausages to cook for a cheap lunch. We stayed in salla cabins, really nice, spacious and clean, lots of towels, toilet rolls and drying room. It took us 8/10 mins to get to slopes so we hired a ski locker €20 euro for the week. Also improver lessons are really well priced for ski and boarding, the instructors are great especially Oscar who speaks great English and is amazing on a board. This was our second time in Finland and we are already looking to book for next year. The northern lights eluded us again but we did see the pink aura, the nighttime reindeer Safari is a must. Trips can be abit expensive but they are great.

Small but perfectly formed. Almost like having your own private resort. We stayed in Number 2 at Salla Huoneistot which was brilliant. Almost ski to and from the doorstep with a bit of planning and the lifts open. Otherwise only a bit of a walk. Own sauna in unit makes up for any deficiencies. You do need good clothing as it is cold which means the snow is fabulouski. We opted for the bus from kuusamo airport which goes via Rukka, another resort worth visiting (25 europop), rather than hire a car. The bus drops you right in the resort at the Hotel but we then had to get a taxi to the unit (16 euros). There is a bus to take you to the supermarket for food shopping from the Hotel, but we opted for a taxi from our unit and back (65euros). The food is excellent quality and reasonably priced. We bought enough for the week. Still cheaper than hiring a car and a lot less scary than driving yourself on hardback snow. Great gear for hire in the hire shop, very friendly help too.

I’m going next week, trying to decide if I would benefit hiring a car or not? I can’t really see much on the forums. Thank you

How much do lift tickets cost? What is night skiing like? Are the road conditions okay from the airport to Salla with a rental car?

Hi, Thank you for your request. Lift pass prices depend on season. All the prices you can find on our web page ski.salla.fi/en/
Evening skiing is a nice experience to ski in lighted slopes.
Road conditions in Finland are good also in winter.
Welcome to Salla!

Hi Emily,
Did you pre-book all your ski passes / tuition from UK or when you arrived in Finland? Does it work out as a beter value to book trips from UK? Thank you

Hello,
We are looking at going to Salla in December this year for skiing and doing the santa trips. My husband is a skier, however myself and my sons, age 7 and 3 will be looking for a ski school to join.
If my 3 year old is too young then maybe a ski nursery whilst we are skiing, or in ski school. We have been looking at the Salla ski resort and booking through crystal ski.
Has anyone had the same experience that we are hoping to have, or any recommendation for us?
Any information would be greatly received :)
Thankyou in advance.
Katie
