- susvegaraMadrid, Spain2,278 contributionsIt's worth seeing at least once. the best, the arctic circleIt's basically a shopping center, there are almost more shops and places to eat than things to see. Remember that to see Santa, you have to pick up a card with the time at the entrance of the building where he is. Remember that to send postcards, you have to buy the stamps at the checkout and put them in the regular mailbox. The best thing is the opportunity to cross the Arctic Circle that passes through it. For the rest, it is beautiful, curious, different. Admission is free, the elf, reindeer and other zoo are not and it is better to book in advance.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 24 February 2024
- Melanie HRushden, United Kingdom896 contributionsBox ticking exercise. Nothing to write home aboutWe went along to here whilst staying at Apukka resort up the road. Whilst it is nice it doesn’t really offer much. It was nice to cross the line of the arctic circle for a photo opportunity but other than that it was just really commercialised. We were here in February and to see Santa Claus, the queue was at least 100 people ahead of us, what on earth would it be like in December. It wasn’t really well maintained and quite scruffy in places. Most the toilets were blocked. Expect little kids would like it but it’s only the thought of Santa that they are interested in reallyVisited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 26 February 2024
- AliceSomerset, United Kingdom122 contributionsCute day out for all agesSuch a cute day out for all ages! Very magical, lots of photo ops. You don’t need to come here just at Christmas, as it’s just as special in March. Lots of souvenir shops and places to eat. - Remy VMontpellier, France830 contributionsTourist factoryWhen I see some adults marveling at such a touristy village and not the most magical either, it leaves me speechless. As much for children I can understand it but adults…. 😅 Everything is designed to make you spend and at very high prices, you push a door and take out your wallet. Not to mention of course the sled dog/reindeer activities which are used for the pleasure of mass tourists.. In short, it’s not tourism that I like, it’s up to you to form your opinion 🤷♂️Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 7 March 2024
- Natasha P157 contributionsHo Ho No !I was really looking forward to this as part of our itinerary- being a huge Christmas fan this was a bit of a highlight which sadly did not meet my expectations. I am not sure what I was expecting, but I could not, would not have envisaged the reality of this place which was essentially an assortment of tacky souvenir shops and over priced restaurants. There were a couple of activities (reindeer sleigh ride, husky sled, photo with Santa) but these were expensive and gimmicky. Fortunately there wasn’t the huge crowds they get in December, but the queues and bodies everywhere still detracted from what was already less than impressive. Take time to choose souvenirs - we were surprised at the discrepancies between stores for the same product and got ripped off more than once.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 March 2024
- Chris MWetherby, United Kingdom1,693 contributionsGlad that we visited - should be viewed as Theme Park without large rides. We visited this on a group tour from Kemi. We were well aware that it was mid summer, and it would not be like Christmas but prominent and permanent advertisements for burgers and other fast food near the entrance tainted our initial image. Father Christmas was in residence and there were the usual gift and tourist shops. We found the Arctic Circle markers interesting especially as the the temperature was a surprising 23 degrees Celsius. The "village" was not very busy - which suited us and visiting at the appropriate time of the year would probably improve the experience, and be great for childrenVisited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 March 2024
- Fly-WillsDubai, United Arab Emirates1,135 contributionsVery commercialised, but a lot of fun. Great for children, otherwise average for adultsWorth a visit if you’re in the vicinity. Several food options and bars (Such as the Loft and Gallis restaurant) All staff are friendly and welcoming. However I’d recommend more for families with children. The reindeer sleigh rides mimic those of a fun fair, just a short walk around a track. Huskey rides looked similar, but we did not experience. Not sure if the animals are looked after and cared for as well as the family own companies (Away from Santa Claus Village) As you can expect prices are high for the Santa Claus commercial aspect. €30 for an adult to visit the reindeer etc. So be prepared to spend big if you want to do the activities. A very average experience, but for exploring the area, crossing the artic circle and having a few drinks in the bar, or dining at the Gallis restaurant then we highly recommend. These were great experiences for us. Especially after long days of excursions else where. Sadly alot of real fur on display and being advertised for purchase in multiple shops. Disappointing to see in 2024 that this is considered acceptable in a place that welcomes children, when so many companies in the world are following the ban on fur. A big let down to see. Maybe this is common practice in Finland?Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 March 2024
- l0trfanManchester, United Kingdom73 contributionsWonderful, Magical Winter WonderlandMine and my hubbys first visit to Finnish Lapland and we stayed at Santa Claus Village for 2 nights. We arrived at night so everything was lit up and all Christmassy. We loved the addition of the Christmas trees out the front of each chalet. We enjoyed Snowman world, Reindeer sleigh ride and meeting Santa (a tip for cheap food go to the Shell garage over the road)Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 March 2024
- Lezlie GWetumpka, Alabama227 contributionsA Magical Place! This is such a magical place! I took the Santa express bus from my hotel in the city center, which was very convenient. There is so much to do here- reindeer sleigh rides, husky park and rides, snowmobile rides, souvenir shopping, etc. And don’t miss the opportunity to visit Santa!Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten 19 March 2024
- Mooly68Poissy, France181 contributionsNOTHING MOREYou don't go to Finland without passing through the tourist village full of souvenir shops. Nevertheless, Christmas magic, we took the photo with a PN larger than life. Count on €55 for 3 photos and the video to download using a code. For €5 you can meet Mother Christmas and pay €10 or €15 for a photo with her. You will have understood the principle of the village :-) Avoid reindeer activities, sled dogs... push the door of the tour operators you will be less disappointed.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 20 March 2024

Visiting this fantastic place in a period with snow and lots of lights makes you feel like a child again one day. The place is 8 km from the center and can be easily reached by two buses: Airport bus (price €4 one way) or Santa Claus Bus (€4 one way and €7 return), the buses run every 15 minutes and you can take to the center of Rovaniemi and the airport. Here you can find many souvenir shops, restaurants and above all a thermometer that constantly monitors the external temperature right on the north pole line. There is also the famous YouTube web cam which views from above 24 hours a day (so your relatives can see you live) All the excursion companies are located in the area and can be easily found with the help of maps or information center. In the center stands the largest building, the famous house of Santa Claus. To meet Santa Claus and exchange a greeting you don't pay anything, just take the ticket and queue and then enter his home via an internal route. Santa Claus also speaks a little Italian and after greeting you and sitting you next to him he will let you take a souvenir photo. At the exit they give you a receipt if you want to buy the printed souvenir photo (with no obligation to purchase) the price is €35 and if you also want the video it's €50 (it seems a bit excessive to me). All excursions, from snowmobile tours, husky rides, reindeer tours and aurora hunting tours are very expensive and it is best to book them well in advance because they are often sold out. Seeing the Northern Lights is difficult, you need to have a clear sky so find out about the best period otherwise you'll spend several euros without being able to see it. I recommend visiting Husky park with a price of €10 you can see different qualities of huskies and being able to pet them brings you so much joy. Then there are other attractions such as the Ice Bar which costs €39 per person for entry alone, plus the price of drinks... the prices are excessive, so see what to choose so you don't get ripped off!

Even with lack of snow, it was magical for the kids. Especially at night when it’s all lit up.
Would highly recommend the meet and greet with the husky’s, and the husky ride. We pre booked but you can pay on the day.
Snowman world was closed till the 6th December, there is a temp snow slide but not worth the €10 they charge per child thigh. Snowman world looks great .
Snow mobiles for the children was €25 for 10 minutes. We had a long wait time of over an hour in -12 (even when we prebooked) majority of the kids came off crying for how cold there hands got. Would recommend going first thing to avoid ques and there is a height restriction of 145cm or under (even though it goes upto age 12) younger kids will enjoy it more as they don’t go too fast.
There was lack of snow, but the kids made their own fun in what snow there was and ice patches for sliding down on the paths.
It is very commercialised but as it’s free entry to go in, it’s worth the visit.

Magic, absolutely magic. We visited as a family of 4 and spent 3 days in the village. We loved just walking around enjoying the atmosphere while the kids played in the snow. Sledges are available to use all over the village, once there isn’t a persons name on them. There are plenty hills around every corner to keep the kids entertained. The lights are stunning and well worth waiting until dark to enjoy. There are loads of little shops and places to get food and drinks. There are also lots of fires around to warm up and toast marshmallows. I would advise taking your own so you can use them whenever you want. We had pre booked some activities but queues for the mini snowmobiles which my son loved. We queues for about 30 mins in early December. We pre booked the huskey ride with Bear Hill Huskeys and they were fabulous. We also just queues up for the reindeer ride. This was about a 30min wait in early December. The reindeer is very slow compared to the huskeys so I would recommend a shorter reindeer ride and go for the longer huskey ride. The Santa bus took us from the village to the city centre and cost €20 return for a family of 4. We really did love the village

Oh Oh Oh!!! very pretty village ... close when there is no one left. In fact, the Christmas myth cracks: too many people - too expensive - excessive and pumping money. In fact, unsympathetic merchants don't need customers because if it's not you, it's another. For example, the exclusive photo (forbidden to take personal photos) with Santa Claus (who speaks French and who is nice despite 01h15 waiting and an appointment taken 2 hours before because you have to register) is 40 euros - the complete pack is 95 euros with the video. To visit Santa Claus, we enter her house and it's 5 euros per person without having done anything yet. Arrived at 1:15 p.m., the reception tells us that the reservation is closed 02 hours before or at 3 p.m. because the whole closes at 4 p.m.... so, well we do not go. Prices calm you down right away: a sweater for 126 euros (see the Jeremstar tikltok that I didn't know at all but was there the same day as us), a bottle of water for 06 euros, a reindeer skin for 150 euros, a woollen cap for 350 euros, souvenirs imported in plastics... in short everything is overpriced in crowded shops where you are carried away by the flood of people who push you, film, scream and where it is very hot (while it is -8 degrees outside!!). Same goes for the Santa Office, post office where we barely move so many people. The price of the stamp at 06 euros is also abusive. We do not talk about reindeer rides, snow bike tours for children and walking with Huskies dogs (in cariole and not in toboggan) overpriced. However, the charm operates by the exterior lights on the illuminated buildings: you must be careful not to slip (especially in the direction of the house of Santa Claus) because there are gravel on the ground covered with ice. And buses continue to dump hundreds of tourists and parking lots are crowded. We were there a full afternoon (and then the next day before leaving) where we could go full circle. Run, but at least you had to see him once in your life. Oh Oh Oh, the Santa Claus village worth a visit. Buy your gifts before you go!!! and especially English essential. Good luck especially if you go at the end of the year (it's better than July 14th for sure!).

About 8 km north of Rovaniemi, it can be easily reached by bus line 8 or the Santa Express from the numerous stops in the city centre.
Entrance to the Village is free; you only pay for some activities.
It is possible to meet Santa Claus every day for free but the official photo with him will have a cost. In mid-December we make the appointment 🎅🏻 at the entrance to the Main Office but, returning after an hour at the agreed time, they will make us enter a vestibule where we will have to endure another wait of at least another hour!
Therefore it would be the very first thing to organize, immediately upon opening.
Mrs.Santa Claus also receives visitors in her personal cottage.
The main post office is very popular where you can buy adorable postcards and the exclusive Santa Claus stamp.
The walk with the reindeer, which in my opinion does not look very happy, has a cost depending on the duration and the route; better to arrive early to shorten the time of standing in line in the polar cold.
In the central square you cross the line of the Arctic Circle 66°33'45.9".
The Eleanor Roosevelt Cottage dates back to 1950.
Numerous other experiences, not just for children.
All around the snowy landscape is enchanting.

We have been looking forward to this trip for a few years, hoping that our 8 year old daughters would be able to remember this trip forever. But we have simply been disenchanted. The town is beautiful, due to the environment that surrounds it in the middle of nature and full of snow. After payment and with a queue of almost two hours, you can take a photo with Santa Claus, it lasts just under 2 minutes. You can buy a €30 gift to give to the children. In the town there are only shops and restaurants. You can do other types of activities such as reindeer riding (a closed circuit) or snowmobiling for children (waiting time approx. 1 hour). We also paid entry to Snowman World, €28 per person, unfortunately not something to visit either. Admission is for the whole day, you can enter and leave, but the visit does not last more than 15 minutes, to jump on two slides, a maze, mini skating rink (previous payment, shoe rental) and an ice cream restaurant. I would not recommend this visit at all. In short, I wanted to write this comment, in case someone is preparing a visit to this city, do not estimate more than 4 hours.

BEWARE!! There are 2 different Santa’s at Santa village.
The one is based in Santas office and the other in the building on the left as you exit reception.
The one in the Santa’s office is a bit more authentic but both are ok. However children might be confused if you see both as there are differences between them.
The food and drink in the restaurants is ridiculous expensive.
A draft beer is 9 euro with a burger costing 28 euros.
We stayed in the classic cottages but again beware as there are a few different companies offering accommodation on this site.
Our cottage included a sauna and the room itself was lovely and warm with everything you needed including a small kitchen with a microwave, hob and fridge.
Wi-Fi was good and free.
We went in Oct and had snow on the one day which made it look even prettier.
Taxis are also very expensive which the 3km - 8 min ride from the airport 35 euro.
The number 8 bus stops outside Santa’s village which goes into the city and airport which was approx 8 euro for 2 adults and 1 child.
There is a shell service station opposite which has a small shop but does not sell alcohol after 9 pm finish law. They also do food 24 / h.
Overall magical for children but very very expensive.

I spent 4 days at Santa Claus Village and had a very nice time, but there are some downsides.
The park itself looks magical at night, truly a wonderful place to stay for Xmas lovers. I enjoyed the cold evening strolls around the park in the lights.
During the day they have fires lit so that you can sit around them and relax.
Our Cabin had a sauna in the bathroom which I loved, it also had all the essentials, coffee machine, fridge, cutlery, kettle and teas etc. The downsides to the room are that the shower isn’t very warm at all and the TV is against the wall above the bed, so you don’t really have a place to sit and watch it, slightly confusing placement.
Breakfast was included, a buffet of meats, cereal, pastries, porridge and more. Juices and coffee are included. We particularly didn’t really like the food offerings and only chose to have this on 1 occasion.
The restaurants are rather expensive, a beer will set you back €11, annoyingly we did set out to have dinner in the main restaurant but it was closed on the night we chose with no mention of being closed that day. So we went for the Chinese restaurant on site that was an absolute disaster, avoid that place.
The ESSO garage over the road is a life saver, it is 24 hours, the food is cheap and honestly very very good! We had pizzas cooked fresh and for a fraction of the price that was on the complex, they also sell alcohol, so I took those back to our cabin. They stop serving alcohol at 9pm though. I might have to do a separate review for the garage itself I was that impressed.
Now the downside.. As a day tripper, this place is great.. Huskies, reindeers and Santa to visit ( €40 for a picture). We booked the duo visit of the animals and this cost us €100 which wasn’t bad. But now as someone who is staying for a few days or overnight, everywhere closes very very early. There isn’t like a bar you can sit at, or any entertainment. So once 7pm or so comes around, there really isn’t anything to do which really is a let down. Please open a late night bar or something, have a room to relax in and play some music or something. This really was a let down, so we found ourselves in our cabin with a esso pizza and a beer most nights.
All in all the site is really nice to look at and we had a good time, just be wary if you are spending a few days here, the evenings can be boring and a taxi to the city will set you back €35 either way.

We had been planning this visit for over a year and watching the webcam so knew what to expect. We visited a few days before Xmas and there was heavy driving snow most of the few hours we were there. Whilst the crowds were huge they were well managed. We went straight to the queue to see Santa Claus and it went well. About 40 minutes in the queue and I gladly paid for the presents for our three plus the photos/video. Queuing area was atmospheric and ok. He engaged with my children and adults for about 30 seconds. Do those complaining on TA honestly expect no queues and that presents and photos will be free? highlights for us were the post office, the cafe near the info desk (looked like a cafeteria but the hot chocolates and honey cinnamon cappuccino were superb). Even though we had to queue for 20 minutes the loft cafe was great considering the pizza/burger restaurant had queues out the door . Kids also liked the playground. Ran out of time to do reindeer rides as queue too long. Overall a great day to the extent we stayed here for the full day rather than visiting Rovaniemi.

A real tourist trap with a felt million Asians and influencers with their cameras. Unfortunately, many don't know how to behave.
The Santa is a big disappointment. For example, the one in North Pole, Alaska looks much more like Santa. If you want a picture, they'll have it more than gilded. Thankfully, we didn't do that. The attached Snowman Park is great, but only if you also have a reservation at Arctic Snow Hotel and Glass Igloo. Then it's free, otherwise it'll be gilded.
The restaurant prices are almost grossly negligently indecent. Some overpriced but nice souvenirs are just part of it and of course the photo with the Arctic Circle. Nearby it also has a Husky Park. It is again evaluated separately, because it is worth a visit.

Ciao a tutti.

Grazie a chi mi risponderà

I stayed in Rovaniemi so I don't have any experience with staying at the Santa Claus Village. I liked the city as most tours start there and it's a very small town so you can easily walk around (bearing the temperature in mind though). You can also access all stores, the mall, all restaurants etc. Being at the Santa Claus Village, you'd have to take a bus to get to town and costs money (I think 8 Euros round trip). I don't know how cheap/expensive it is to stay in the Village but I had a nice and cheap AirBnB in Rovaniemi and was very happy with that.

Hi, we are visiting Santa Claus Village in a couple of weeks.
Do we need to book to visit Santa?

No you just line up. We were there early so pretty much walked straight in. I understand cues can be long. Enjoy your trip 😀

Hi, going to Rovaniemi on 8th November do I need to pre book to see santa at SCV?

No, you will not need a reservation. We were staying in Santa Claus Holiday Village and noticed that it was very busy during the day. So trying to visit Santa Claus might take a long time in the cue then. It was a lot easier to visit him relatively early in the morning or in the early evening after 6 p.m. No cue then at all and Santa had a lot of time to talk to us then.

I have a silly question. On the "Santa Claus Village - Arctic Circle Webcam" in the center of village I see many people pulling kids on a plastic sled. I want to know if those are sold or rent nearby, and if so, can anybody tell me the price? I have planned a 4 days trip to he village (hotel there too), and I don't plan to go Rovaniemi city center (unless anybody tell me it really worth doing so for one day).

There are some which are left by the coach / car parks which you can use for free. Just make sure you leave them there afterwards for the next boy / girl. Whatever you do DONT TAKE ANY FROM OUTSIDE A SHOP / RESTAURANT OR TIED UP AS THEY DEFINITELY BELONG TO SOMEONE.
