This is a hidden gem. So picturesque and so quiet. Very different to the places that have coach loads of tourists be driven in and out all day.
It’s a lovely, small, family-run, winter activity centre. No frills, but feels like an authentic, less-touristy snow experience.
The ice skating was just beautiful. The sons of the family helped us with finding skates and helmets. There are nice supports to push along for inexperienced skaters of any age and little skating sledges you can push very young children on. It’s not an oval rink but like looping ice tracks through the snow and trees.
The toboggan run was really decent too. Our kids (11, 8 and 7) had a real blast here. They spent so much time here we ran out of time to try the cross country skiing but that also looked really good. I’d advise going as soon as it’s light as in winter the activities chitchat 3pm when it gets dark.
There is a new, simple wooden cabin at the top of the hill which is staffed by the mother of the family. They serve some basic, but tasty food as well as snacks as well as hot drinks.
All in all a real highlight of our trips

We bought the package with return transfer from Rovaniemi (0930 to 1330). It's good to arrive early in the morning, as the place looks magical in daylight and it's less crowded. Staff very friendly and helpful in finding us the equipment.
Kids had fun with the ice skating and also sledding (so did the adults!),
A very nice break from the tourisy places.

Magical Forrest ice skating paths surround by snow covered trees. Run by friendly, helpful and enthusiastic staff. Plenty of ice skates to hire, warm huts to change footwear and store items. Great for beginners like me as they have adult size frames to help you balance. A hot drink and sausages that you can cook over a Koti fire are included in the price. There are clean toilet facilities and lots of other ice based activities especially for children.
Be aware that this is outside and is very weather dependent, so warmer days will mean the ice might not be perfect and sometimes they have to close. If you are a diva and want perfect smooth ice then go to an indoor rink. IF however you want to live out your Frozen Elsa dream skating through the forest as the sky turns pinks and purples then go. For me it was magical and I highly recommend going if you get the chance. Oh and you can’t book online on the day, I believe. We just turned up after lunch on the off chance.

Park in the middle of nature which sells you a dream on paper but once there it's a disappointment. €59 for ice skates and access to a small ice slope in the forest, you have access to sleds and forest walking equipment, nothing exceptional. In short, very expensive and not much exceptional.

Spent half a day here and was really nice!
Owners are kind and welcoming. Not too busy. Plenty of equipment to play with. Very well thought out! Would recommend.
It does cost around 30euro in a taxi each way for the city but even with that it’s worth it. Really pleased we went.

A wonderful day out. The bus picks you up in Rovaniemi at different time slots. Earliest was 9.30 which we did and would recommend. The Leisure park gets a little busier the later you leave. Its about a 30min drive. If you take the 9.30 bus, you then return on the earliest bus which is 1.30pm.
There's a natural cross country ice skating track, a natural ice rink to play ice hockey and games, and also a bob sleighing hill. On top of the hill is also a little café where you can get some lunch, hot chocolates, coffees ect. We got a couple of sausages and cooked it on the fire outside.
The staff were amazing and very helpful. Would definitely recommend a day out. For the price you pay, its a must do. A great experience......

This is our favorite excursion while in Rovaniemi. It is a private winter wonderland nestled in the woods outside of the city. About 15 minutes from town.
This is a family owned business, that built their own skating rink, sled hill, Snowshoeing trails, Lappish hut (Kota), and Ice Bowling lanes. They are incredibly warm and friendly, they provide equipment (Ice skates, Helmet, Snowshoes, Sleds, etc.) You just need to bring your warm clothes for adventure. They also provide hats to fit the helmets if you need them.
We haven't skated in years, so our first couple runs, we used skate helpers (its like a walker, but slides on the ice!) After, we got our balance down, we skated a 500m trail, for an hour among birch trees and falling snow. They even have a rink where you can practice or play hockey!
The sled hill is long and has some good corners, and multiple types of sleds to try out.
We snowshoed around the back area, into undisturbed forest with fresh fallen snow all around.
Then, we took a break in the Lappish hut, where they provided us with sausages and hot juice. And it was so comforting, a hot fire with food and drink to recover.
Even the toilet is a warm little cabin that is clean, eco-friendly and comfortable.
We recommend to couples, families, everyone!

Visited Kotatieva and we voted it the top activity of our trip. The setting is amazing and the hosts are friendly. The main event is a unique natural ice skating rink and track- and I now have a budding ice hockey player! The entrance price is for the day and I thought very reasonable for an activity in this area of Lapland. It also included hot berry juice and sausage (to cook tradionally in a lappish hut) for lunch. The activities are suitable for all ages and was perfect family time making memories. Would definitely visit again if return to this area.
Just one thing to note, if you don't plan to drive/hire a car ... It is about 16km from Rovaniemi and taxis are expensive, so factor this cost in.

I visited Kotatieva in December, only two weeks since it opened, with my husband and one more couple. We had so much fun, we felt like we were kids again! You get brand new ice skates, sledges, snack and a drink includes in the ticket price. There is small ice rink + beautiful wide ice trail that goes thrugh the forest, natural sledge path and also a space for bowling on skates outdoors. Highly recommend this place.

The ice skating trail through the snowy forest was my favourite experience at the Kotatieva winter park and definitely a unique one. There are also plenty of other outdoor activities including snow shoeing which is particularly great if you want to do some “forest bathing” and enjoy the beautiful untouched scenery of the wild. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the great thing is that the rental of all the equipment is included in the entry fee. I would definitely recommend visiting this place.
