Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The place can only be visited by own car. There is no public transport available. Also the road signage are very poor so you will have difficulty finding this place. With our car we got lost once and went to a completely different place. There were absolutely no people whom we could ask for directions.

The cemetory is a very quite and peaceful place.

Yes we have all heard about the Second World War but this memorial is to a part that at least I wasn't familiar with. The dealings between Finland, Germany and Russia are the backdrop to the existence of this memorial/cemetery and an important part of the recent history of the area.

This is one of two burial grounds for the remains of German soldiers from WWII. The remains were on Finnish soil, before the Soviets appropriated it from Finland. They were returned to Finland and it is an interesting and tragic story. The place is on a beautiful lake, and attests to the humanity behind the horror. My only tip is make sure you know where you are going. The GPS did not work, and the road sign was turned around so we drove back and forth, until we realized the sign was supposed to point down the side street, not the main street. From there, you will see it--easily. It is about 10-15 minutes from the airport and 20 minutes outside Rovaniemi.I have visited this three times--once in autumn, once in winter, and then again this last June. Summer is the best for the overall location--but other times you will mostl likely be the only person(s) there. Definitely worth going if in the area.

Probably not many people know about this cemetery for German soldiers who died in Lapland during WW II, but it is somewhat compelling to learn more about a part of history that many, not from Finland or Germany, might know about. Sited in an evergreen forest overlooking the water.

The area was very nice and the walk to the cemetery was relaxing, but the actual site which is a dark building was really dark and grey, which I suppose is the standard for German cemetery. The forest and lake and surrounding area is more of the attraction! They have a nice beach area right next to the cemetery and it has a smoke sauna and wood hut with fire pit and toilets. The large amount of graves in one small place is very saddening to see.

Visited in late January - cold but not unbearable. Well signposted start then just follow path of compressed snow - narrower track to memorial takes off to left before you get to the lake and is not sign posted. Memorials like this are always a poignant reminder of the human wastage of war. This one reminds us that the 'enemy' lost too - families on both sides lost their loved ones and for what ...

If you are not into war memorials - the walk alone is worthwhile since it is quiet, secluded and pretty finishing with a view over a frozen lake.

Stunning setting about 15kms outside of the town. Definitely need your own car. The Cemetery is set next to a lake - very Teutonic in style, and therefore very different to the Commonwealth War Graves that we are more familiar with. We realised that we didn't know the detail about Finland in WW2 so our visit prompted some searching for detail. Fantastic in winter - frozen lake and untouched snow covered forest paths, but also I'd assume very beautiful in summer. But above all, this is a war Cemetery, so a place to be absolutely respected.

The German soldiers cemetery next to the Norvajarvi lake in Rovaniemi, is a beautiful place to visit. Only takes about 15 minutes to drive from Rovaniemi centre.

Beautiful and interesting place to visit, walking distance (800 meters) from parking place. Walk along the beautiful Finnish forest path is nice and calming experience. The impressive building is located by a beautiful lake.

As we have traveled around Europe, we have taken the opportunity to visit as many military cemetery's as we can. We have visited American, Canadian, British, and German cemetery's and always come away with a sadness that so many perished.

This cemetery is located at the end of a road that has a parking lot for visitors. After leaving the lot, it is about a 10 minute walk to the cemetery. What struck us about this cemetery was the remoteness and what we perceived was it's isolation.

The walk is on flat ground and not at all strenuous.
