Fantastic place for small kids
Dec 2020 • Family
We loved this museum. Yes, it’s small but not lacking things to do. We spent over 2 hours there and had to drag the kids away (ages 5 and 7) because they could have easily filled another hour.
I loved that the museum was interactive and clearly designed with children in mind (yet fun for adults too). For example the nearby Artikum is the opposite and the kids struggled there. In Pilke they had a lot to activities to do and they could touch whatever they wanted. We learned a lot about forests, sustainability, eco-friendly materials, Finnish nature. Both my kids gave it a 10/10.
If you have small kids this is definitely a place you wanna visit! Tickets are affordable and children under 7 enter for free.

More for kids
Dec 2020
The wooden Pilke House is a combined office building of Metsähallitus and science center.

It is located on the banks of the river Ounasjoki next to the Arktikum museum. So it is easy to combine the visits.

Pilke gives information about forests and our relationship with them. There are many interactive things to try. Most of them are more for kids.

Small and not much to see
Nov 2020
I thought this was overpriced for what you get. It should be renamed as it is much more about forestry than general science. There are very few artefacts to look at and most displays are more interactive and would be better for younger children (5-10). I didn't learn anything and would recommend going to the Arktikum instead. You can get combined tickets for here, the arktikum and the korundi centre but I would not buy a ticket especially to go in here.

An unusual playground
Jan 2020
If you want to play like if you were a child but you feel too adult for it, then visit Pilke, it's a museum, going to museums is okey for adults =)
Just take at least one friend with you and it will be a good time.

Relatively little information for a museum, just some curious facts and stories. Everything can be touched, cool photos are guaranteed. When your head is going to blow out full of knowledge after Arkticum you can relax in Pilke.

1-2 hours for a visit if you come with children or a big company of friends. Up to 4 people can manage in less than 1 hour

Unique Center on Forestry, Kids Especially Enjoy
Dec 2019
I agree with some travelers who indicate this unique space focusing on the forestry industry is better geared for children -- but for adults with children looking for an indoor activity on a cold and/or wet day, this might be the ticket. I had doubts that the kids (aged 5 and 7) would find this place interesting, but I was wrong. Despite several displays only in Finnish, the kids still found plenty to keep them engaged. From building a giant fort of cardboard boxes, to playing a game in which you shoot a moose in the snowy landscape (yeah, I was a bit unsure of this one, but my animal loving daughter still somehow liked this), to making shadow shapes, and taking part in crafts, the kids could have spent more than the 90 minutes we gave them. They asked to go back! The center gave my friend and I some much needed downtime, and we also learned about forests and Finland too!

Fun for everyone
Dec 2019
Took our family here and had a great time. If you are retired you get a discount. The adults did the simulator that you shoot. Kids loved the building block, the car tracks, the large machine and just playing at all the stations. Very informative and a good way to break up the day to let kids play.

Boring for adults
Aug 2019
This place can be interesting and offers several games etc. for children, but for an adult this is really not enough! This is not really emphasized on the webpage and here in Tripadvisor. I had a combo ticket with Arktikum for 13+2 Euro so for 2 Euro instead of 7 it was tolerable to have a short look around but I definitely suggest not to go there for full price if you are without children. Some displays or games were even out of order so improvement is also needed.

Fun, interactive and time flies
Jul 2019 • Family
Fully interactive and versatile. Yes it is more from an aspect of forest industry and its products and less nature preserve but everything is done with very good taste. Could have spent more hours there.
