Our trip was magical: the farm is in the middle of a beautiful forest, and is run by a family that really loves reindeers and taking care of them.
Katja accompanied us to meet and feed their lovely reindeers, which roam free in a vast area, and explained to us many details of their lifestyle and habits. She also offered us warm drinks and homemade cake by a lovely fireplace.
The experience was very intimate, non-turistic and well done: I 100% recommend visiting this lovely place to stay away from the tourist traps.

Such a fantastic day. The sleigh ride was such fun and so much better and longer than the ones you see closer to town.
Feeding the reindeer was an absolute highlight. So amazing to see all their different personalities.
Lunch was delicious. The fact the Katja makes it everyone morning just made it yummier! Blueberry pie was great too!
The guides were both very genuine people, such knowledgeable and passionate farmers.
Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a more authentic, small guide experience.

Katja is an angel of the Reindeers and of her visitors. Incredible experience. The visit is more than worth the 1 hour drive from Rovaniemi. Road is good despite winter. After a hearthly welcome you drive with Snowmobile slide through the forest and visit about 50 Reindeers and are inmidst of the animals who like the food and try to get most of it directly from the basket. Katja explains so many interesting information about the whole life of the Reindeers and their owners. She gives enough time to really feel and enjoy. As well it is a very small group or you may be on your own. So no touristic hassle thing, but pure ecological and nature experience of the anomals and farmer. After the visit to the "ladies" Reindeers we have visited the "boys", somewhat shy but approaching us after a moment to eat leaves from branches. And not to forget the fire place, tea, warm chocolate and frehsly baked blue berry cake offered. Highly recommended!!!

This was by far the best experience we had in Lapland, the reason for this is that Katja and her family treat you like family. They can do that because they only accept small groups (maximum 8 persons per day), hence thay have all their time and attention for you. On the day we visited, wr were a total of 6 persons, our family of 4 and another couple, they spil the family in 2 groups, our family started with feeding the reindeers whilst the other couple (were not with us), they started the raindeer ride.
The feeding of the reindeers is an incredible experience, you go to the farm from the family home with a sledge being pulled by a snowmobile and you enter the farm with around a 100 reindeer and they come next to you while you feed them, then we got put of the sledge and spent around an hour petting and feeding the reindeers, in the meantime Katja was explaining everything about the reindeers, she's very knowledgeable. After the feeding it was time for our lunch, she took us to her home and we ate a delicious reindeer soup in her dining room, it was served with water and juice.
After lunch we went for a long reindeer ride in the forest, I think it took around an hour. After the ride they invited us in the kota and lit up a fire and we had some lively biscuits baked by Katja and a delicious hot chocolate, and we spent some time drinking hot chocolate by the fire whilst 1 of her staff was showing us some tricks hiw to lite a fire without matches or a lighter.
This was an incredible day, all the family had great fun and experienced a real day at the farm. I suggest that everyone should try this awesome experience, you won't regret it. Katja and family, hope to see you again one day.

Wow. What a magical day. Cannot recommend this enough. The hosts are incredibly welcoming, knowledgeable and the welfare of the animals is paramount. The pace of the day is perfect. You are in a small group and the day is broken up into a (activities might be the other way round depending on your group) reindeer sleigh ride, lunch, feeding and petting the reindeer that live in the forest and then warming up with a coffee or hot chocolate by the fire. Just incredible. Worth every penny.

For our first day in Lapland, we were looking for a cute local experience as a couple. This was beyond our expectations. First of all, you will be welcomed a very heartwarming Finnish couple in their own home with an unrivalled sense of hospitality. Their reindeer farm, created by their ancestors in the early 1900s, is really ethical and they provide a very large area for reindeers to live during winter time.
Be ready for a Reindeer sleigh ride followed by lunch in their home, a tour of the farm on the back of their snowmobile through the forest where you will be able to spend time with reindeers and feed them. We’ve also learned a lot about it, they are very knowledgeable people. They are taking time so you’re able to take as many pictures and video as you need.
The experience ends around a fire with coffee, hot chocolate and a delicious home made blueberry cake. We did not want to leave. I strongly recommend, worth every penny

We visited Porohaka Reindeer Farm in December 2024 and it was nothing short of magical! Katja and her family welcomed us with warmth and kindness - their hospitality is above and beyond, and they ensured that we all had a truly memorable time.
The reindeer were majestic, and feeding them and interacting with them in the snowy wonderland of the farm was an unforgettable experience. You could tell how deeply the family respects and loves these animals, and they shared so many fascinating insights about reindeer and their way of life.
One of the highlights was Katya inviting us into her home for a delicious homemade meal of reindeer stew. She shared the incredible 100-year story of her family’s reindeer farming tradition - about the history and culture of the farm - with such pride and passion that it made the experience even more special. It was a beautiful connection to the past, and we felt privileged to be part of it, even for a short while.
I'd also like to mention how thoughtful Katja was in looking after our 6-year-old daughter, who has coeliac disease. She made sure there were gluten-free alternatives so our daughter could enjoy every aspect of the meal and snacks without missing out. Knowing she was included in every way speaks volumes about the care and attention Katja and her family provide.
This is more than a visit – it’s an experience filled with kindness, tradition, and unforgettable memories - and it was a highlight of an amazing trip.

This tour was superb. The best part was how it was family run and the owners of the farm were clearly very passionate about their work and the animals. The tour was not rushed at all and there was a lot of time to interact with the animals. We learned a lot of interesting information about the politics and practicalities of reindeer farming in the greater context of Lapland. Everyone was very kind and patient with my kids when they needed help getting their snow gear on. The snow gear kept them warm enough even though it was -22. The soup was delicious! I would 100% recommend this tour. I suspect it’s the best one around because the hosts are so personally invested.

Katya and her small team was absolutely amazing. What a lovely lady. She welcomes you into her home for a home cooked lunch and was fantastic with our 5 year old granddaughter when she was feeding the reindeer. A reindeer sleigh ride is a must. They are very informative on the reindeer herd and answer all your questions. We would go back in a heartbeat, this is more of a personal tour rather than the more commercialised activities. If you do anything in Rovieneimi go here it’s a wonderful experience.

The farm owners could not be surpassed in hospitality! They directly created such a pleasant atmosphere that you felt in good hands. After the breathtaking encounter with the reindeer followed a very delicious meal at the family table. Then we went on a reindeer sleigh ride through the forest. The highlight was the gathering in the fire hut with a hot chocolate or coffee and blueberry cake. We are infinitely grateful for this unique experience and can only warmly recommend it!
Thank you Katja! You have made our stay very special.
