About
We are a small reindeer herding family in Rovaniemi, Lapland.
Our main source of income comes almost entirely from reindeer herding, which our family has practiced for decades.
Our name, Porohaka, has stayed the same from the start of the 20th century when our farm was established. This is our first time to open our reindeer farm for travellers as you.
We at Porohaka wish to introduce you to the tradition of reindeer herding.

Overpriced at 78E to feed reindeer lichen. Meal sparce of mashed potatoes, minced reindeer with no taste and few vegs. Hard biscuit for dessert. No soup or salad. Sexist waiter only asked men if wanted more food and not women. Very disappointing. On Trafalgar Bus Tour

My father and I visited the farm during my spring break trip as a study-abroad student in the United Kingdom. This was such a wonderful experience, and would highly recommend this opportunity to anyone and everyone! Katja was an incredible host and provided lots of knowledge about the reindeer and the Lapland ways. She also provided a lovely lunch of reindeer soup and snacks around the fire to conclude our day. I will be sharing the pictures and experience with anyone who is willing to listen! The reindeer were so incredibly kind and were excited to come near us as we had food for them. I am so thankful for this opportunity and hope others get to experience the same magical experience as we did

I visited the farm with my family and we all enjoyed it very much!
Katja has been the most welcoming host. She explained everything about reindeers and what being a reindeer farmer in Lapland means! All of this while we were feeding them ourselves :) they are very cute animals!
She offered us warm clothes for the experience, and she cooked for us a lovely traditional reindeer soup, then a blueberry cake with tea and coffee.
Her friend trained some reindeer to pull our sledge, and it was really fun and relaxing! And also taught us how to start a fire from birch cork and a magnesium stick.
We are very thankful to Katja and her friend!
I would recommend this experience to all!

We had a magical experience at this beautiful reindeer farm. We were picked up at our hotel as part of a small group and driven to the countryside where we met the kind farm owners, Katja and her husband.
There is no mass-tourism dehumanising experience here. This is the reindeer farm visit for those seeking the "real deal": a sustainable small family farm where the animals are treated with love and respect.
Katya provided winter overalls and took us by snowmobile to meet and feed the beautiful reindeers. She explained to us their lifecycle and showed concern for the climate and economic changes threatening small holdings which are part of her community life -- but always sounding optimistic and proud. That in itself was touching and remarkable.
We were then treated to a soul-warming lunch at her house, and afterwards spent time fishing on a frozen lake -- don't worry about the catch: it's the incredible scenery and silence that counts.
To round it all up, we had homemade blueberry cakes and delicious Finnish coffee (the best in the world!) and hot chocolate in a fireplace hut.
It all makes you feel part of the family, and in the end you are excused to shed a little tear when saying goodbye.

If you’re unsure whether to do this, don’t think just book
From the moment we got their Katja was waiting to greet us into their lovely home - the whole experience was just fantastic
We learned so much about Reindeer but also about finish life and had a great laugh with Katja and her husband
The weather was very cold, but we were given extra warm clothing so we were fine!
The reindeer are really well looked after and they come over to eat from you which is such a nice experience
Afterward we were given home cooked blueberry pie and fresh coffee / hot chocolate whilst warming up in their wooden hut
Absolutely 10/10 and would recommend everyone to go and visit

When planning the trip, me and my friends wondered if this experience was a bit pricey for what we were getting... At the end of the day, there was nothing but joy, and we realized that the price was actually quite low for how well we’d been treated, and the amazing experience we got the chance to have. We took the 174€ journey and absolutely loved it, from feeding the reindeer to the comforting hot chocolate by the fireplace. The extra clothes are very welcomed, don’t be shy about taking them! The food was amazing, Katja is probably one of the most adorable people we’ve ever met, and the planning was really perfect. I can’t say anything else but highly recommend you to go and live this heartwarming experience yourself.

Our Reinder experience with Katja was absolutely fantastic! I struggle to find word to explain and convince you to go: The host is extraordinarily helpful, patient, knowledgeable but also in love with their life and animals. It's a pure instant of magical peace!

My wife and I had a great time in Reindeer Farm Porohaka. The entire experience was absolutely wonderful, no rushing and therapeutic; especially the part where we get to feed and mingle with the reindeer. The 4th generation owner is very passionate about her job and gave detailed explanation on breeding reindeer and how reindeer farms operate in Finland. The reindeer soup that we had for lunch was excellent too. This is a must do itinerary when visiting Finland. Strongly recommended.

Great experience, very close from the reindeers : they eat in your hand.
You know a lot about the animals and their farmers.

We went to the reindeer farm Porohaka during our stay in Lapland. It was one of the best tour that we had. We fed the reindeers during the morning. Katia answered to all of our questions and told us a lot about the farm and the reindeers. Then, we had a very good meal before the reindeer sleigh ride. We finished the day with a hot chocolate and the best blueberry pie. It was such a great experience with lovely people. If you need to choose only one activity, choose this one
